AMD Athlon II x4 940

Featured Replies

I'm curious if anyone is using this processor with FS and what your thoughts are. Thanks?

Keep the blue part on top...

For the gearheads: Ryzen 9800x3D | ASUS Rog Strix B650E-F | MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X | 64GB DDR5 6000Mhz RAM | NZXT Kraken x72 Cooler | EVGA 1000 PSU

Do you mean the Phenom II 940 or the Athlon II 640? They're both good chips for the money, the Phenom II is the faster of the two. Should be about on par with a Q9550 for FS.

I did mean the Phenom II.

I have the 955...good bang for the buck. My set ups are in my sig...right now the AMD beats the intel I have hands down...I am limited to XP 32 on the intel. I have Win 7 64 on order for both machines so maybe that would be a bit more even comparison. Larry

Lemme put it this way, I run an overclocked Phenom 9550 (First Generation, B3, which is the one without the bug). Overclocked to 3.0GHz, and just incase you don't know the only difference between the 9 series Phenoms (excluding anything below the 9500) is clockspeed and unlocked multipliers, otherwise the all have the same architecture, layout, cache, etc. So basically I really have a Phenom 9950 overclocked in the sense :(. Some people aren't even able to get above 2.6 with their Phenom 9850 BE some I'm very glad with my product. Here are my settings:Target Framerate: UnlimitedGlobal Texture Resolution: Very HighLens Flare: onAdvanced Animations: onAircraft Casts shadows on the ground: onAircraft Casts Shadows on intself: onAircraft landing lights illuminate ground: onWhile Running Tileproxy---Scenery---Level of Detail Radius: MediumMesh Complexity: 100Mesh Resolution: 10M (FSX mesh highest resolution is 10M, so there is no point of setting it higher)Texture Resolution: 60CM (My Tileproxy is set to 60CM)Water Effects: Med 2.XScenery Complexity: Very DenseAutogen Density: Very DenseSpecial Effects Detail: High---Weather---Draw Distance: 60miDetailed Clouds: Maximum---Traffic Density---25% Airliner and General AviatoinAirport Vehicle Density: HighRoad Vehicles 20%Ships and ferries: 30%This is configured for realism, and keep note these values are way above ultra high in FSX...With the above config (Which is for when I'm using Tileproxy) I get 40-100+ FPS all the time unless I lock the framerate to 30 or lower. It is extremely smooth. Highest Frame rate yet: 130FPS :(When I run default FSX scenery the only differences are this---Scenery---Level of Detail Radius: HighMesh Resolution: 10MTexture Resolution: 7CM (Highest scenery resolution in FSX is 1M but if you select 7cm some roads and other minor things will be drawn @ 7CM whereas available)---- Everything else is the sameWith that I get usually 40-50 on the ground, lowest I've seen on the ground is 38FPS. In the sky were talkin 40-70 FPS. Highest FPS I've gotten with this: 107FPS on an island off the east coast of the UK!So if you optimize your system well, resist tweaking too many things in the FSX.CFG, and make sure your get a good motherboard, RAM, and a good video card, you should have a blast with FSX and the Phenom II 940. Overclock that baby, and you will set FSX on fire! (In a good way :()BTW to all Intel folks, eat it! My FPS is more than enough, and I don't even have the latest CPU...
