October 16, 200916 yr Which is the better value and offers the best overclock performance?I want to do a final upgrade to replace my system's Q6600 cpu. This is the last possible upgrade I can do to the motherboard. Per NewEgg, the Q9650 (3.0ghz) is $329. and the Q9550 (2.83ghz) is $219. Is the .17ghz worth the $110.00? I do overclock and have the Q6600 (default 2.4ghz) overclocked at a stable 3.3ghz on air. The new cpu will also be overclocked. Thanks for your replies.
October 16, 200916 yr 9550 is a much better value. You'll get approximately the same maximum speeds with either chip, it's just ever so slightly more likely that you'll get there with a 9650 if your system can't handle the higher memory/FSB speeds necessary with the 9550.I run a 4GHz 9550 and it's a great chip. With my oc'd GTX 285 I run everything at 1080P full settings in-game in all games but FSX where water effects are kept at 1.x low and manage playable framerates in every game I've thrown at it, including Crysis.

October 17, 200916 yr I'd go for the 9550. I have mine conservatively overclocked to 3.2GHz and it works fine for more than a year now.
