Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and the latest AMD overdrive utility.Check here for the latest:http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_overdrive.aspx

Hello gman !tnx for the quick response....I updated AOD & BIOS and this is what I getPU Core clock flipping back and forth 805 to 3200 (3200 is the base for the 955)Multiplier 4.00 Voltage .95 Temp 39C (Which is okay) so I'm running OCCT, and OCCT report the very same as AOD, I get to BIOS & everything looks Kosher over there ... now what do I do ??????????????? MOB is Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4Pbios set up to default

now what do I do ??????????????? bios set up to default
What do you want to do? Get a stable OC at what speed?I don't use AMD CPUs since many years back, so I have no experience with OC that CPU and mobo/BIOS.I'd suggest that you don't use the Overdrive utility. Default BIOS settings might be your problem when using Overdrive. Here is a site that might be of interest to you: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=58Here are some general articles on the art of OC:ing:http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/displ...e-oc-guide.htmlhttp://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/oc-guide.html

First if the BIOS is at its default settings Cool n Quiet (CnQ) is most likely throttling the CPU this the very odd voltage and core clock. My 720 always jumped. Disable CnQ and check those settings again. If you are planning on OC'ing the chip you want CnQ off. Since your new CPU is a black edition the guides posted by UlfB might be overkill since the multiplier is unlocked on the black edition AMD chip. Here is Dolks guide to OC'ing the Phenom II: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=596023Read the whole guide before proceeding. Also make sure you have a capable heatsink fan. The stock HSF is ok but you really need something like the Xig S1283 or other higher end cooler to get the most bang for the buck. On a side note I have never liked AMD Overdrive for OC'ing and would recommend doing all your changes in the bios only. AMD OD has a tendency to do a crap job on finding the best settings. Basically with the BE Phenom II you just bump the multi one setting at a time and perform a quick stress test. If it crashes you bump the volts one setting and try again. If it passes the stress testing then bump the multiplier. Keep doing this until you find you max multiplier setting with regards to volts and heat. Once this max is found perform a 12-24 hour stress test to make sure all is happy. You can play with the FSB and NB later but I found very little performance gains from these on the BE chips.DO NOT just set the multi to a high setting and hope it works. OC'ing should take time. Hope that helps.

No problem N1125Y. BTW Last post... Spot :(. You must have cool n' quiet on which lowers the CPU frequency when needed to save energy and keep things well... cool n' quiet :(. To fix this you can either:A) Disable Cool n' Quiet in the BIOS:( If running Vista or higher Go to Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Power Options. Then if you want you can create your own power plan or modify an existing and then click "Change Plan Settings" > Change Advance Power Settings > Power Processor Management. When you click the "+" sign on that set the minimum and maximum state to 100% and your CPU will run at 100% frequency all of the time.I did B because when I'm doing work, away from the PC, or want to defrag overnight, I can change from High Performance (which I set the power states for both to 100%) to "Power Saver" which has a 5% minimum state and a 50% maximum state. This comes in handy with my overclocked Phenom because when I'm not playing games I'm just wasting energy and shortening life by having it at full frequency and it works perfectly even with Cool n' Quiet b/c if you modify the processor states it will go to the max frequency which is the HT ref + mult that you set in your overclock utility or BIOS.For overclocking I set my voltages in the BIOS and then I test with a overclock utility that came with my motherboard just to see what voltages are good, then I uses AMD Overdrive to finalize. Make sure to change these settings in AOD:* In the "Preference" section make sure "Advanced Mode" is on if you want change all the settings yourself, which is the best option IMHO.* If you want the changes to be permanent as in load up your settings everytime you boot into Windows (Except for safe mode, because Windows won't load the drivers it needs) then check "Apply My Last Settings when system boots". If your PC unexpectedly crashes or gets the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) then AMD overdrive will not apply the last settings as a safety feature.
