Featured Replies

Hi Jd,Installed Windows 7 and FSX, all seems good, actually looks great!Haven't tried using RC in the sim yet but it installed well.Trying to update the scenery database.I'm getting the error: Run-time error '75' and that there is a Path/File access error. This is the path to my FSX that I'm copying into RC:C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator XI have the latest MakeRwys.exe in the main FSX folder and also tied an older version.Mike

I'm running windows 7 64bit. You're right I had to run as administrator, selected in the drop menu on the .exe. Had to put my product key in again. Also had to download and install library files (link found in your FAQS) needed MSSTDFMT.DLL and had to direct it to SysWOW64 in the windows directory.I'm testing it now, CYQB-CYUL, checked the weather, have my clearance, looks good! Wish me a good flight! Thanks for your fast reply.Mike

Just wonder what are you doing with OS that it is required to have so high level of system priveleges.

I've been using Vista and Win7 for ages and only very rarely have to do anything "as administrator". I never have to run anything permanently at such an elevated level.I think the main problem is that most non-Vista aware programs assume they can easily read from and write to FS folders. FS by default installs into the Program Files folder, and in Vista and Win7 those are protected against user interference -- and it is that protection which throws things into a mess for non-Vista aware add-ons.It is worse for FS9 which, not being Vista-aware either, and recognised as such by Vista, has all of its folders aliassed to read/writeable folders which LOOK like the real ones, but which are in fact only in the state they were when installed. You can write to them, but they aren't the real folders which FS9 is using! All of this mess is easily resolved by NEVER letting FS ever install itself in the Program Files folders. Much tidier anyway to have FS9 in a root folder called FS9, and FSX in one called FSX. Then none of this mess happens.RegardsPete

writing temp files to the path where you installed rcv4. 99% of people install it to c:\program files...vista, and windows 7 don't like program writing to c:\program files (or a whole list of paths)you can make it easier by clicking "run as administrator" on the compatibility tab, when you right mouse click the .exe, and click properties.in v5, i will be writing my temp files to your temp directory (which i will be allowed to do), and the admin rights issues will be a non issue.jd

Hi Alain,I'm running RC on the same PC as FSX.Been using it all weekend on the new Windows 7 64bit install, FSX w/ Acceleration and RC is running great! Didn't realize how much I missed it, lol!Mike
