October 27, 200916 yr I'm finding that I'm having trouble seeing the runway on approach and flare in the VC with the 737's. I usually land at flaps 30, and stick to the Vref the FMC gives me. I usually cross threshold at about 5 degrees of pitch, which means I can't see very much at all.Am I doing something wrong? Should I try flaps 45, or maybe try and adjust the trim?what do you think? What is the normal approach angle?thanksrobert smith
October 27, 200916 yr A normal approach in the -700 is just under 5 degrees for me. You want to approach at REF+wind correction or REF+5, whichever is greater. If you still have trouble looking out, use the SHIFT+ENTER command to raise your eyepoint. Joe Sherrill
October 27, 200916 yr It isn't unusual to lose sight of the "aim point" before the flare, I start watching the far end of the runway and real world of course the peripheral vision helps. Dan Downs KCRP
October 27, 200916 yr Hi Robert,Don't forget the 737 has a dedicated "landing" view (which I never use...).But the two tips above should both help a lot (ie add the necessary computed knots above Vref and look at the other end of the runway).A screen shot might help as something else might be wrong. Which version of the NG are you flying and what is your landing weight ? Best regards,Bruno
October 27, 200916 yr Author It happens on all of them, really. I usually land with around 5000 lb of fuel left on board.I'll try the wind correction/going faster, and we'll see.

Five knots do make a difference !And, by the way, do you get a different pitch in a full autoland landing? If, yes, maybe raising the seat (shift+enter as mentioned above) is all you need...Bruno
