October 27, 200916 yr I was installing a New Zealand Retro AI Package and came across the attached screenshot of an aircraft I have yet to be able to identify. Does anyone know what plane this is? Please advise and thanks!Mark
October 28, 200916 yr Hi MarkIt's a British freighter Armstrong Whitworth AW.660 Argosy built in the 1960's.A weird one, heh? Looks a bit similar to Carvair.
October 28, 200916 yr Author Thank you Rafal! It is a strange looking beast for sure. I love offbeat looking aircraft like this and try to incorporate them into an AI package. That way I can see one every once in awhile while flying this good earth. Now the hunt is on to see if I can find one for suitable for FS9 AI and a repaint to match the Safe Air livery. Maybe add it to NZ and AU :)Mark
October 28, 200916 yr Author Here's a followup...there's one here in the library and on flightsim by Rick Piper. It appears to be the one in the screenshot I posted...it's got the Safe Air repaint and looks really nice. For my AI quest, the only issue is that it's flyable model with a full VC and panel. So the question is how to lighten a flyable aircraft with a VC and panel to make it more AI friendly? I've never done it before...MarkArmstrong Whitworth Argosy by Rick Piperhttp://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=76595

October 28, 200916 yr This is the type of aircraft that Capt Bill Startup was flying on December 20th 1978 when between Wellington and Christchurch unknown lights were observed in the Kiakora area of the South Island. Bill and his crew saw them as did Wellington Radar. They were also filmed from the Argosy, however no one has been able to explain what they were. A very interesting U.F.O. case indeed.
