October 29, 200916 yr Author HelloYes it will as long as your CD/DVD is set as the first boot device in the bios or is included in the list of bootable devicesFlight Sim X and my current OS (Windows Vista Ultimate) all reside on a WD Raptor 160GB and I've run out of space! I wanted to do a Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade with the 'custom' install option and advance from 32 to 64 bit but I understand that I'll have to purchase the 'full' edition rather than the 'upgrade' if I'm going to load it on a new hard drive. So that was the reason for my question, i.e. I had to be sure that Win7 would load properly on the new HD. Thanks for your response.-George

If I do the 'custom' upgrade install (mentioned above) does Windows 7 search out and retain any data from the existing hard drive (for inclusion with the new install) before it formats (customizes) the drive? -G

If I do the 'custom' upgrade install (mentioned above) does Windows 7 search out and retain any data from the existing hard drive (for inclusion with the new install) before it formats (customizes) the drive? -GThe installer for Win7 will look only on the drive it's being installed on for for any old files. Once you have installed Win7 on your new hard drive simply plug in your old drive into the next available sata port on your motherboard and you should be able to see you old files on your old drive. Please note that you will have to re-install all of your apps like Flight Sim but your data for all your old apps will at least will still be the on your old drive.Dan Martin Flight Ontario

I don't want to risk furnishing you possible erroneous info related to modifying your BIOS so hopefully someone with more knowledge will respond.2. For those following this thread, a couple of comments on my Win 7 upgrade. The procedure was accomplished with no glitches. I did a Win 7 Home Premium upgrade from Win Vista Ultimate. I had four hard drives installed on the comp and and Win 7 prompted to select one for the new install; no problems followed!3 Following installation, the opening screen after the boot presented the following options (which previously did not exist): a. Windows 7 (this is the default setting that will load automatically unless b. or c. is selected) b. Windows Vista (this was formerly the C: drive) c. Ramdisk Options (I'm not familiar with this function...)4. In addition the lettered designations for each of the installed drives were changed during installation. Win 7 became the new C: and the others followed (the corresponding BIOS Disk numbers were 0 thru 4).5. The only difficulty I had was this morning after adding a new hard drive exclusively for Flight Sim X. The new drive did not appear after clicking on the desk top (Start>Computer). All the other drives were there but not this one. I checked the "System, Devices) and the new HD was there and 'working properly.' I then did a reboot to access the BIOS and the new drive was listed there. After Googling for an hour I found some reference to 'manage devices' and ultimately found that the new HD was 'not initialized'. After following a few instructions, Formatting, etc., the drive is now usable. I was not however, able to select the next sequential drive designator. It should have been 'J' but the next option available (on a drop down menu) was 'N'... So now I'm off to find a good reference for installing FSX on a new drive.-George -
