December 2, 200916 yr Right, but the reason (for me anyway) to use a large screen HDTV as a gaming monitor is for immersion. If you're too far from the screen it's not going to do much to fill your peripheral vision which will kill emersion level.Depends on the game you're playing. Try a fast-paced shooter @ 4' from a 42" screen and tell me it's just as playable as a 22" screen @ 2'. It's not.

There is no substitute for a wide Field of View- that occupies your entire peripheral vision. That means that you see nothing laterally but the sim itself- just like in a real cockpit. The attached screenshot shows a view approx 45" wide about 26" from my eyes. It covers nearly all of my peripheral vision. To get an idea of what I see, view this size reduced pic with your eyes about 6" from the screen. (I know, your eyes probably can't focus that close!)"Up close and very wide" easily beats "wide but far away".Alex Reid 2-17" LCDs & a 19" CRT. "DreamFleet Bonanza - Lining up CYYJ R09"
