November 23, 200916 yr Hey, for the last 4 years I've been using a 19inch widescreen running at 1440x900 resolution. This is also the only LCD monitor I've owned. Its cheap and i only bought it cause of price. I'm now looking to upgrade to a bigger and better monitor. I know my way around computers pretty good, but have never really dealt with monitors. I would really like to get a good 23 or 23.5 inch monitor but a little worried about the performance drop going to the 1920x1080 resolution from my current one. Has anyone had a similar upgrade with similar computer specs? What kind of performance drop should I expect?I'm really debating if I should just go for the 22inch for performance sake as it runs 1600X resolution. Just looking for some input here. Also, any recommended monitors in that range? - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
November 23, 200916 yr Whatever you decide 1 - The larger your screen and resolution , the more pixels your cpu has to push, and the less your fps for sake of bigger display.2 - I hope you better informed than me, cause i mistakenly purchased 24inch Plasma display for my PC instead of LCD, now i get a fair amount of image ghosting on my screen. It always clears up after some time though, still Plasma screen for PC is a BIG NONO , i only just found out.

I've been building and tweaking computers for 10 years now, yet have never experimented first hand with changing monitors. I'm just looking for people that have seen it first hand and can compare it for me. Again, mainly from going to either a 22(1680x1050) or 23 (1920x1080) monitor from a 1440x900 or some comparable situation...and if possible..specifically in FS. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

If you want to test the concept out, try setting 1152 x 864 (it'll look like crap on the monitor due to interpolation) and see how much of a boost you get in frames at the lower res. It won't be much. Works the same way going uphill. My secondary/development PC is a Core2Duo X6800 @ 3.5GHz and an 8800GTX pushing a 24" widescreen LCD at 1920 x 1200, and there was no noticable difference when I moved to that from an older 1600 x 1200 4:3 CRT.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
November 24, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the info. I was hoping someone was just going to reassure me : D . I guess now I'm looking for a good 23 or 24inch monitor. Vibrant and bright colors are pretty important to me now that I'm looking for a new monitor as I've been using a pretty crappy one...want to really experience the difference. Any recommendations? Really looking to keep the price under 250 if possible. November 30, 200916 yr Author I have to tell you that these are a bit out of my price range. I'm coming from a real cheap LCD that I've used for the last 4 years (19inch Sceptre x9w) and am quite satisfied with it, so I dont need the best really. Apart from those $400+ monitors....whats considered the best 23 or 24 inch monitors more inline with the $250 price tag. I don't mind the 1920x1080 resolution and maybe actually prefer it. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

My computer does not strain to get the graphics out at 28FPS and it makes a huge difference having such a large screen and with wideview aspect activated in FSX.cfg it looks fantastic.Funny I searched out posts for large displays as I am thinking of upgrading to a 37" or 42" 1080p TV and I came across your post. I would like to give it a try and see how it will look, I am not sure if it would accept input from HDMI though. Most large stores will accept returns so why not go and try one of those 26" on for size?Good luck,Robert \Robert Hamlich/

December 2, 200916 yr The problem is the larger the size the worse the image quality is going to get. Whether the display (HDTV) is 32" or 55" the highest resolution is going be 1080P (1920x1080) and 32" and above is a lot of area to cover with just 1920x1080 of pixels.Depends on viewing distance. The 42" plasma which the rig in my sig is connected to is 4-9' away depending on where I choose to sit. If you use an HDTV as a monitor and sit a mere 2' away (or closer) then you should indeed go with a smaller size.

There should be some kind of balance between enjoyment of the larger image and the lower resolution.I run the my monitors at 1920x1080 and 1920x1200. I am happy with both displays.Abe
