Weather alternatives

Featured Replies

HiJust wondering if anyone knows if there is: A. Any way to change the default Real Weather from reading Jeppesen data to anything else? B. If so, what is the most frequently and accurately updated alternative? Thanks

You can't change FS's own data source, but there are a few payware external weather engines out there. If you grab a copy of Real Environment Xtreme 2, you get a pretty decent weather engine included as well as those beautiful textures. If you want to tweak weather settings to your heart's content try Active Sky Advanced. You'll never get perfect real-life weather in FSX but you can get a pretty good rendition with either of the above. :(

HelloI don't think there is a way to change to another provider. If you have an interest in the weather in the Sim you may be better getting one of the Payware weather programsI am back to using FSmeteo 8.0 after many years using the ActiveSky programs, A Very nice little program which uses few resources in comparison to the competing products.

I already have REX2 but that doesn't auto-update, nice as it is. Just looking to see if the default auto-updating weather can be improved upon as Jeppesen seems to be a little out of date

Hey Mad Dog,Never tried FS Meteo - will it remove the infamous haze layer in FSX?It's true ASA is quite chunky, but the REX2 WX engine seems quite modest. To be honest on a modern PC it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference.I'm guessing though you've probably just about tried them all as I have!Cheers.

HelloAs far as i am aware REX2 does auto updates

REX updates by units of distance rather than time, which can have it's disadvantages.ASA can be set to update every 5-30 mins (default=10).From reading an old review of FSMeteo, it would appear to update every 6 mins.
