December 1, 200916 yr When I made the transfer from XP 32 to Win 7 64, one thing I did not expect to get was an OOM error :( This has started happening practically every flight now. From the start I was very happy with my setup:Win 7 Ultimate 64 biti7 975 (not overclocked yet)GTX2806 Gb DDR3 RAM (no timings)TripleHead2Go.No performance tweak in Fsx.cfgHad many flights for some months prior to this without incidents, over and around complex sceneries. My addons are almost the same now as I started out with, and so are my FSX settings. What has changed (as far as I remember):Recent installation of UTX Europe.Recent installation of GEX Europe.New Nvdia driver.Probable solutions:1. Move FSX sliders to the left? Why? These settings are the same as when FSX worked fine.2. Update drivers? I have and always do.3. Defrag harddisk? Do so regularly with O&O.4. Uninstall UTX & GEX? Maybe. I will have to try this, but do not understand how landclass and textures could have this effect.5. Blame Nvidia? Well, it wouldn't be the first time...6. Change color from 32 bit to 16 bit. Even if this might help, I would rather throw my PC out the window.7. Free extra space on harddisk. I have plenty of space.8. [Please insert any suggestions]I have seen a lot of OOM errors in the forums lately, so this is apparently a hot topic.Help appreciated.
December 1, 200916 yr Have you tried the 195.62 W7 / Vista 64 drivers? I've found them to be far better than the dedicated W7 191.07 drivers (8800GTX).Maybe they will help. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space

December 3, 200916 yr I find myself reinstalling FSX on a regular basis - usually, as I keep installing more addons, at some point something breaks. I've yet to have a system running to my satisfaction with all the different addons that I own installed at the same time, and in my experience a time-consuming reinstall usually ends up being a better option than a frustrating search for the root cause of the problem.GEX is not likely to add to system memory use, but UTX will. My first try would be to reduce road traffic sliders since it adds a lot of cars. If that doesn't work, try moving the autogen slider a bit to the left. And if that doesn't work either, you can probably guess what my next suggestion will be ... December 5, 200916 yr How about that!ASUS just delivered a new BIOS update for my board that includes memory handling :( Not a single OOM since :(
December 8, 200916 yr What motherboard do you have?I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2.First flight after I wrote the post above I had another OOM :( So I'm back to square one :(
December 9, 200916 yr You've updated the board with the latest W7 Chipset & Audio drivers directly from Asus's site? - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space

December 16, 200916 yr I'm in the same boat as you guys. Tried using the PMDG MD-11 with RCv4 and after 25-30mins, OOMhere is my original post:Hello All,Sorry if this question has been asked. I recently upgraded my PC from XP to Windows 7. I did a complete hardware/software change (Brand New PC). It seems everytime I used the PMDG MD-11 after about 25 minutes (10 minutes) of being airborne, FSX crashes saying it is "Out of Memory".I'm runningFSX SP 2Most recent PMDG MD-11 (With US Airways Livery) (just purchased the other day)FS2CrewActiveSky XRadar Contact v4Everything used to work in XP with no problems. It seems in FSX it crashes, I have lowered graphic settings, etc.... I'm losing my mind since I just bought this new PC, etc, etc. Everything runs great, but then after being airbone, it crashes. I've also lowered the Graphic settings, etc, etc.... PC SpecsAthlon II X2 245(2.9GHz) 4GB DDR2 500GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 1GBWindows 7 Home Premium 64-BitAny ideas or suggestions??? Thanks,Rob S. December 16, 200916 yr Well, I need to do some more tests to finally nail this problem, BUT I recently got another 6 Gb RAM so I now have a total of 12 Gb RAM.Until now no flights have resulted in OOM :( Like many others I use weather and atc addons and I believe that some of these or all of them are responsible for this sudden plunge in virtual memory.More to come.
December 17, 200916 yr Ok, I am pretty sure now that the extra 6 Gb RAM to a total of 12 Gb RAM was the key to solving my OOM problem.I have done several flights now in areas, which always resulted in a crash before this and now everything goes well.A word of caution though:In my quest for more virtual memory I found Game Booster, but this gave me a new error relating to 'g3d.dll'.I tried a lot of things until I realised that Game Booster was the problem.Hope this helps others with the same problem.
December 20, 200916 yr I wonder if that is what I have to do then? Currently my my memory 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800. Possibly go with 4x4 insteadIts almost like Windows 7 or FSX thinks theres only 2gb avail in comparsion to 4gbI've e-mailed Microsoft for support (doubt they'll have anything intelligent to say). Guess I might have to bite the bullet and downgrade to XP Pro. It just sucks because there are other people having this problem, but there is no rhyme or reason. So at this point, I'm grownded.....Regards,Rob S. Rob Sciarrino
December 20, 200916 yr Rob,RAM is reasonable in price right now, so that might help you. I read in a forum somewhere that another guy thought the 'breaking point' was around 7-8 Gb.Another option would be to wait for the Win 7 64 Servicepack 1 and/or better video drivers...Yet another option would be to only fly around photoreal scenery, as this seems to negate OOM somewhat.
