The dreaded blurries!

Featured Replies

hello flightsimmers and happy holidays to all! unfortunately, I've got the "BAH HUMBUGS". I spent some money on a new PC and it seems my old laptop worked better,or at least as far as displaying the ground textures. My laptop had a single core AMD Turion Mobile with ATI integrated graphics card.It ran FS9 pretty well, with the exception of high-end addons, i.e. aircraft or scenery. My new PC has an Intel Pentium II quad core Q8400 @ 2.66GHZ, 4MB L2 Cache, 8GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, ATI Radeon HD4350 Graphics Card with 512MB memory & DVI, HDMI, DX10.1 compatiblity. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Everyone I talk to says this new PC should be no problem for FS9 with all settings maxed-out.Well,here's the problem.I have FS9.1 installed with many addons.Everything seems better than my laptop, i.e. higher frame rates, better performance with high-end aircraft & VC's,better performance with weather addons & displaying clouds, better performance with scenery addons & AI traffic, it's just all around better performance with one exception. The ground textures are sometimes very blurry, it seems to come & go.Sometimes the ground textures, trees & scenery are all blurry, and yet other times some squares of groun d textures will be clear ond others blurry. While this texture problem is happening I see no loss in frame rates. What's wrong with my beloved FS9? Sorry for the lengthy description, but I hope this will help anyone who might have a solution. Again, Happy Holidays to all! MATT

HelloHave you done all the usual blurry treatments in the fsx.cfg and defragged your HD?I have a core I7 which I run FS9 on and I still get blurries, I did a Name defrag of my hard-drive(took 3 days!) and I STILL have blurries, I just have learned to live with it and made my ~ key the refresh scenery hotkey.

Hey pingpong, thanks for the reply!I have done all that I know about, defrag HD I have ultimate defrag from PC Aviator.I have my FS9 settings, display, hardware resolution synced to the same as my monitor resolution 1680x1050x32 at present, and I have tried different resolutions. I have tweaked all the other Display settings within FS9 back & forth.I have tweaked the settings in my ATI Catalyst Control Panel back & forth.I also have a refresh scenery hotkey "shift R" for me. I saw your system specs, and WOW!that should smoke anything you throw at it.the fact that you also have the "blurries", it seems to me that this is a problem specific to FS9 on Windows 7,because I did not have this problem on Windows XP on a less capable system.thanks for your help, and I will keep trying to figure this out.If your interested I have a little "FREEWARE" program installed that seems to help with frame rates. It's called "GameBooster V1.3" by a company called IOBIT.Here's the link gamebooster linkthanks,MATTP.S. what Blurry Treatments can I do to my FS9.cfg file?

I am not using GameBooster with Windows 7 because I read that it shouldn't be used and is no longer necessary. Instead, only eliminate unnecessary background applications in the msconfig startup tab. That may or may not be a recommendation from someone in the know. The only blurry treatment I know to try is set filtering to anisotropic in the display settings graphics tab.
