December 14, 200916 yr Hi y'all,I recently fell in love with FSX because I upgraded to Windows 7 last week and the difference in performance between Vista and 7 is amazing. Double the framerate on my system. This opens a new world in simming for me, it's almost like FS11! I have invested in more addons (over $100 worth just this weekend - shh, don't tell the wife) and I plan to make heavy use of the sim. FS9 doesn't offer much over FSX anymore since FSX is no longer a slideshow. The one thing, and it's a big thing, that I miss with FSX is FS Navigator. That program will truly be missed. So it's been a while since I checked on things and my question is - has anybody found a similar program to use with FSX? Can it be ported over to FSX somehow by one of you smart folks? I don't know the technical differences that would prevent a port but I don't doubt it could be done given time and incentive.I primarily use FSNav for planning/exporting my flight plan, and for tracking my flight in-cockpit (I usually use F9, but sometimes it's cool to pin it to an unused portion of the panel too). Please let me know if you have found such a program, I'll buy it if it exists. Thanks in advance!
December 14, 200916 yr Hi,You can find a partial answer to your wishes with Plan-G, a VFR flight planner, available here : http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/You'll not find a SID/STAR library, and you cannot export a flight plan in special formats (PMDG, Level D...) - it's called a VFR flight planner -, but you can export in FS9/FSX format, and it can operate as a moving map, using Google Maps.Personally, I've installed it on a 2nd PC, connected to FSX through SimConnect, and it works like a breeze !Alain

I didn't have much time with it but I have one question: can it be brought up in-cockpit? I didn't see any way to do that. I mean like FSNav was a F9 keypress without leaving the sim and it could be pinned to a blank space in the cockpit. Can Plan G do this?

I want to do this - I have a laptop sitting next to me and would love to use this "SimConnect" thingy. I have the SDK installed but have not found out how to do it. I will go on the SimConnect formum to see. If you don't mind, is it difficult to do? can Anyone do it? Is there a fee involved? I have the registered FSUIPC and I have FSX and FS9 both. I have so many toyz I don't know what to play with first. This SimConnect idea is topmost in my mind though. If I can fly FSX and see my path and all on my laptop that would be better than FSNav I think.
December 16, 200916 yr I think Feelthere's Map program might be what you want. I haven't read the description or tried it, but judging by the pictures it looks like it's similar.http://www.feelthere.com/2005/map.html

December 18, 200916 yr I have one question: can it be brought up in-cockpit? I didn't see any way to do that. I mean like FSNav was a F9 keypress without leaving the sim and it could be pinned to a blank space in the cockpit. Can Plan G do this? No. It runs outside FS. But that can also be an advantage. For example, you can put it on a memory stick, and once you've built the database, you can use it on any Windows PC anywhere, so long as you have a USB port and an Internet connection for Google Maps. It's labelled as a VFR planner, since its primary focus is VFR and GA (IFR generally doesn't need the richness of mapping, user waypoints etc). There are lots of "IFR" planners for FS out there, but no other "VFR" ones that I'm aware of. It'll still do IFR though, since at it's basic level, IFR is just a flag set in the plan file, and different altitude rules. There are a number of IFR-only features that are not currently supported -- airways, SIDs, STARs, approaches etc, but these will likely appear sometime (it is version 0.8, after all :( )0.9, which includes ILS feathers, intersection support and vertical profiling, should be available before the end of the year. :(
