March 9, 201016 yr Author Commercial Member Mark,I've noticed that any last second corrections (say ... in the last 2 seconds of landing) will result a lot of times in the "tip over." If you're correcting at the last moment, then you were out of shape and you probably should have gone around.Once you start to feel really good about your skill, go fly the Carrier IMC mission by Brandon Seitz. What a great mission that is to test your skillz!I'll sure put the pucker back into your butt!(I also liked the Carrier series on Hulu to learn more about Carrier Ops in general and the amazing pilot skills required to do this type of work).Cheers,Hi Kevin, I just googled that mission, but could not come up with anything, do you have a link please? rgds,MarkHey Dietmar, thanks for the input, I could not find either file in the library, can you help with a link also?
March 9, 201016 yr Hi Markmay be I can provide you with some additional info/help on carrier operations. It is one of my favored usage in the FS Sim. But first my environment set up:1: XP_SP3, FSX SP 22: I de-installed FS ACC, so I am not using it any more. Did not what I expected.3: I developed and using my own Carrier scenery. The carrier is defined as a AP in FSXwith full SLI approach support. The Scenery can be downloaded from AVSIM( DL_CVN75_V2.zip). The Scenery has been published in the PC PILOT magazine issue 58 also.4: I was unhappy about the MS F18 model in FSX ACC mainly the cockpit and the overalloperations ( Autopilot, Nav, etc) So, I decided to use the freeware model from the "TEAM FS KBT" ( AVSIM , file "fa18shexe.zip " ). The model is really excellent. It is FS9 but works in FSX perfect. 5: The cockpit is a issue. No good !! So, I developed my own and it is still underdevelopment. However, most has been completed. 6: For the catapult and cable arrester I am using the great development from Rob Barendregt . Available as freeware from AVSIM ( file " rcbco-30 -zip). The package includes the sounds for catapult, arrest and cable rewind also. Catapult start:To find the proper catapult zone for the launch, the rcbco package provides you with a corresponding warning display. In my cockpit the launchbar lights are flashing. a: Set your trim correctly ( aircraft dependent ) .b: Set your flaps ( F-18 = HALF)c: Hit F4 or push full your throttle over 90 %Your aircraft will now accelerate up to about 160 knots and you are in the air. That was the easy part.Landing:a:To be always/mostly successful to land on your carrier you need a full ILS supportprovided from the carrier and to be implemented in your panel.b: You need a HUD which display the main metrics ( speed, course, altitude etc. ) and a very important display of your AoA .c: In addition you need a AoA indexer display. This gauge tells you whether your speed is to low, to high or correct according to your weight ( fuel/weapons etc.) and flaps setting.Your landing speed will be according to this parameter ( approx. 120
March 9, 201016 yr Hi Kevin, I just googled that mission, but could not come up with anything, do you have a link please? rgds,MarMark,Carrier Landing IMC, by Brandon Seltz, is an expert-level mission included with the Acceleration add-on from Microsoft. It's the most white-knuckled mission I've flown in Flight Simulator. The mission has you following another aircraft in tight formation to a carrier steaming in very bad weather. Your aircraft is damaged. You're vectored to the deck in weather that I'd guess is about maybe 100-200 feet of visibility.Once you complete the mission successfully, you'll definitely want to join the US Navy. It's quite exhilarating to successfully complete.Cheers, Kevin D. March 10, 201016 yr Hi Alex,I assume you are using a moving carrier ( not a static carrier as an AP) ? So, you selected the Global Zone operation. In this mode you can do a catapult start and carrier landing approach on any runway . It works, I tried it several times.May be, before moving to your carrier, you should test just on a normal runway. Pls check again your installation. Check also your hook definition in your aircraft.cfg according to the doc from Rob.What aircraft model you are using ?Watch your landing speed. Should be between 120 knots min and 200 knots max. This is the default setting in the .ini file . Dietmar
