J41 Lights

Featured Replies

On a night flight yesterday, I noted that in spot plane mode the passenger cabin was in darkness. The cockpit lights illuminated both pilots well.I discovered the cabin light switch below the fuseboard behind the FO seat.It made no difference.Secondly, on landing at Jersey I had difficulty finding the taxiways, as the taxi and landing lights proved very dim, and lit the tarmac ahead very poorly.Does anyone else see this problem? Know of a way to increase brightness?best wishesKev Townsend

Yes I had a smilar problem, but installed schockwave lights instead. You will need to edit the panel & aircraft config:-Aircraft:-[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi, 7=recognition, 8=wing, 9=logo, 10=cabinlight.0 = 3, 3.120, -30.18, 1.40, Fx_shockwave_navredlight.1 = 3, 3.120, 30.18, 1.40, Fx_shockwave_navgrelight.2 = 2, -29.000, 0.00, 12.63, fx_shockwave_strobe_nllight.3 = 2, -1.600, 1.82, -2.51, fx_shockwave_strobe_nllight.4 = 1, -29.418, 0.00, 12.59, fx_shockwave_beacon_nllight.5 = 9, 21.100, 0.00, 2.61, fx_PMDG_J41_vclightlight.6 = 3, -28.980, 0.00, 1.77, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l_nllight.7 = 4, 21.100, 0.00, 2.61, fx_PMDG_J41_vc_ambientlight.8 = 7, 4.110, -29.50, 1.24, Fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrowlight.9 = 7, 4.110, 29.20, 1.24, Fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrowlight.10 =10, 16.000, -2.00, 2.96, fx_PMDG_J41_cabinlightlight.11 =10, -6.000, 0.00, 2.96, fx_PMDG_J41_cabinlightlight.12 = 5, 26.700, -0.75, -2.50, Fx_shockwave_landing_light_shortlight.13 = 5, 26.700, 0.75, -2.50, Fx_shockwave_landing_light_shortlight.14 = 2, 3.120, -30.25, 1.40, Fx_shockwave_strobe_nllight.15 = 2, 3.120, 30.25, 1.40, Fx_shockwave_strobe_nllight.16 = 6, 26.700, 0.55, -2.75, Fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenonPanel highdef:-gauge184=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_gear, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave lightThis works fine for me, a slight spillage into cockpit when I have the taxi lights on during a night landing, but everything elsi lights up fine.Hope this helps

Do you have active sky / graphics X installed? That could also be the cause.

No, no addons at all.Relatively recent FSX install on new computer, only this pmdg J41 product + IvAp.Even with both, taxi and landing lights (3 lamps) I would regard forward vision marginal. It is quite hard to see unlit taxiway centre lines in my opinion.best wishesKev Townsend

Can I just increase the values in the [LIGHTS] section?I have:[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi, 7=recognition, 8=wing, 9=logo, 10=cabinlight.0 = 3, 3.12, -30.18, 1.40, fx_PMDG_J41_navredlight.1 = 3, 3.12, 30.18, 1.40, fx_PMDG_J41_navgreenlight.2 = 2, -29.0, 0.00, 12.63, fx_PMDG_J41_strobelight.3 = 2, -1.6, 1.82, -2.51, fx_PMDG_J41_strobelight.4 = 1, -29.418, 0.00, 12.59, fx_PMDG_J41_beaconlight.5 = 9, 21.10, 0.00, 2.61, fx_PMDG_J41_vclightlight.6 = 3, -28.98, 0.00, 1.77, fx_PMDG_J41_navwhitelight.7 = 4, 21.10, 0.00, 2.61, fx_PMDG_J41_vc_ambientlight.8 = 7, 4.11, -29.50, 1.24, fx_PMDG_J41_navwhitelight.9 = 7, 4.11, 29.20, 1.24, fx_PMDG_J41_navwhitelight.10 = 10, 16.00, -2.00, 2.96, fx_PMDG_J41_cabinlightlight.11 = 10, -6.00, 0.00, 2.96, fx_PMDG_J41_cabinlightIf I'm just interested in light 5 & 6 which would be the value to change/increase?best wishesKev Townsend

I think you should use 3d lights (from shockwave) or some lights from REX2; they seem to be much clearer.

I'm not sure that I need to spend $16 or $40 just to increase the bulb wattage surely?Looking at other aircraft cfg, it appears that register 1 (after the = sign) relates to the particular light. If this is the case, then there is no control for the J41 Landing or Taxi lights (5 or 6).Your Shockwave example does have values for light 5 & 6 - Lights 12, 13 & 16I think the differing registers after this are just locations. ie X,Y, Z coordinates.Maybe the values are in the [Emitter.0] section of the vclight.fx file?Or the [Particle.0] section, base on RGB values. Currently set 100 of 255, and designed to colour a little in the distance. There are only a few values other than 0, so I guess I could experiment!Any ideas?best wishesKev Townsend

I believe that PMDG codes those lights into the model...Andrew

You may be right as Landing and Taxi lights dont appear in the .cfg file.If they did:Following the thread, leads me to interrogate the fx_PMDG_J41_vclight file on FSX\Effects.You can open this with Notepad and see all the settings.I wont post here for brevity, but it has around 60 entries.Of these, only 6 have values other than 0.0Some others are switches, but ones that have values are:Lifetime=0.50, 0.50X scale=0.50, 0.50Y scale=0.50, 0.50Color Start=100, 100, 100Color End=180, 140, 100As before I think that Color relates to Values of R, G, B. (0 - 255).Maybe to just add 50 to all these values will increase luminocity without affecting colour temperature at the end ?Superfluous maybe ?best wishesKev Townsend
