December 23, 200916 yr right now i have FSX sitting in the Program files (x86) in Vista 64 bit. i am seeing some postings where it is recommended that FSX not be in the program folder but into something more like C:/ FSX. is this just a simple cut and paste the entire FSX folder from program folder to it's own file on the c drive? probably not because them all my add on programs that are looking for FSx would have to be told where it was moved to as well. using GEX, UTX, REX, UT2, WOAI, FGSenesis and the new Audio Environment.thanks
December 23, 200916 yr Hi,Do a clean reinstall to be on the safe side. Experienced folks might be able to use cut and paste but it involves some system editing.
December 23, 200916 yr What Jim says.you can do a straight install into the new folder, then copy over the old folder. The problem isn't the install folder, it's the Registry entries for installed addons.
December 24, 200916 yr It goes without saying, but the best install is to put FSX on a separate HD. Preferably a SATA, or SSD (Solid State Drive) to ensure maximum stream bandwidth.
December 24, 200916 yr What they said, best to put FSx on its own drive, Why, defrag your C drive then surf the internet for 5 min, play a video then have a look again ayt how fragmenetd it gets, You can always create a partition for fsx that is always the other option, then FSX will never need defragging unless you add or remove something from it. But if you move fsx, there is a file on avsim fsxpathfix, i think its called will fix the fsx path for you so programmes know wher it is, the you may have to reinstall other stuff as there paths may be broken .
December 24, 200916 yr I always imagined that since some elements of FSX are always kept on C-drive, the best thing would be to keep FSX on that drive as well? "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
