  1. Prepar3d 2.0 looks so much better between the two video's.
  2. Google is probably the only company that could afford the code from Microsoft, combine Flight with Google Earth, add Sketch up 3D models and make the planet look truly lifelike. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Google-can-save-flight-simming/391373234250032?ref=hl if you think that it is a good idea, tell me so on the facebbok page, i know people who dont think it is a good dont need an invatation to say that , lol. Kyle
  3. Years ago I asked Ray to make a small airport for me because i didnt know the first thing about it. He told me I would have more fun making them on my own and he was 100% right. I learned how to use a lot of great freeware that allowed me to make stock FSX airports look more like the real thing. He was also one who was always willing to give his time when i had questions. Thank you Ray. Kyle
  4. I have used FSGenesis for years and thought it made a world of difference. But i have to say FSGlobal looks good as well.
  5. So MS comes out with flight saying it is a way to introduce more people to the world of flying. What if they take the best of FSX and Flight and make it into FS11 for the more serious flight sim audience? Flight could still be there to bring in the casual flyer who is looking for for fun missions and what not, and as those people learn and want more out of it, they can them move onto FS11. You could have the two products side by side, one as a free download and the other as a download or boxed store version like FSX was.It could happen, I dont know if it would or not, but it could.Kyle
  6. The KSEA area is tough on a lot of computers and some of your components are probably not helping ( W#indows 32bit will only use 2 Gb of RAM even though you have 4 GB for example)The PNW scenery manual has suggestions for the levels to use based on your computer specs and so lowering the autogen a little may help. But also try flying out of Bowerman, Orbx just released amazing free airport scenery for the airport and it seems to be pretty easy on the frame rates and looks stunning.
  7. REX was trying to get cloud shadows to work but for now has placed it in a "to do" pile.http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.php?topic=15409.0
  8. Hey Phil, nice to see you around but too bad you still have to defend a decision MS made 5 years ago. No wonder developers dont like talking about stuff sometimes.
  9. Trying to get beck to the OP, the thing that would make me switch right away would be that MS releases a good product that works well for my system from day one and as my system gets better or as add on's are released that may require more power then my computer and flight can grow together. There seems to be strong opinions about what Flight will be, what is will do, what it cant do, and such. I hope that Flight is not backwards comparable scenery wise. I do admit I was glad that FSX was able to use FS9 AI models but that had its negative side as well, textures dont work in DX10 preview mode, some propellers showed as black discs, and the day of the week issue needed to be adjusted. not big deal things but I am sure there will be a version of WOAI for Flight someday, just like there will be tons of free addons for scenery.
  10. true mad dog but VOX doesnt handle AI traffic as far I was told and Radar Contact is months behind version 5 which was going to add VFR to it. If REX is making an ATC addon and it has moved ahead of both of these competitors, then I'll buy it.Kyle
  11. Ethan, the reason you see the people walking in loops is because with FSX, you can only have them do a 60 second walking routine, then they repeat it. It is just the way FSX is made.Kyle
  12. I think that flight simulator's in general will someday go this route but I dont see it happening with MS Flight or X-plane 10. When you look at Google buildings in 3D with textures and from any angle or height, it does look very impressive and I can imagine, as bandwidth gets faster and HD space get cheaper, that this could be a possibility for most. Of course if you look at how big one photo scenery airport can be, into the mid double digit MB size, try doing that for the planet and see how may 100's of TB's of HD space you would need. Now if you want satellite scenery for the whole USA today there is a company that will send it to you on a USB 3.0 external HD for about $150 right now but there is no autogen with that so no 3D objects.
  13. if it is an ATC product from REX, i will be sure to buy it. It is something that FSX lacks and REX makes a great product.kyle
  14. one thing that would be important to know is what type of aircraft you are flying and also if you are flying in VFR or IFR conditions. lets look at a basic high performance single engine aircraft in VFR conditions for this example. when you are downwind from the landing and abeam the runways numbers, you would do your first notch of flaps and lower the landing gear. turning base you would use your 2nd notch of flaps and check to make sure your gear is down, and turning final you would use your 3rd notch of flaps and again check your landing gear is in the down position. this is a very simplified version but that is the just of it. If you were flying in IFR condition and flying an ILS approach, a general thought would be 1st notch of flaps over the outer marker, 2nd over the middle and 3rd as you exit into VFR conditions while the gear would come down at the outer marker i think. ( it has been a real long time since i shot an actual IFR ILS approach ) If you are flying a B737 this is obviously going to be different.Kyle
  15. one thing that could be good about the MS online store would be that if someone is a at home developer, maybe they could post their stuff in the MS store and if someone wanted to buy it, like a .99 cent DL, then they could get it and the developer gets at 70/30 split with MS, just like Apple does with their apps from Itunes. It may make people make less freeware but there have been some amazing free add-ons that i could see paying .99 for.Kyle
  16. so does anyone want to take a guess as to why MS would post this picture jsut to quickly take it down? Is it just to create this kind of online chatter about it? i can not think why else they would do this.
  17. +1 to what Matthew S. stated in his post. the cockpit shadowing looks real nice I thought and the water with the U.S.S. Arizona was real sharp looking. I was thinking I saw some of the pop up scenery in the back ground as well and I wasn't too happy about that but it is still early in the Flight process.Kyle
  18. John over at Orbx is trying to estimate how much interest there would be in people attending this possible future event in Washington State this fall. I t was posted on the Orbx web site but i thought i would post it here as well for people who love the Orbx scenery but may have missed the posting. If you would at all be interested in attending, you have to sign up for the Orbx forum to tell them you would be interested in having this event so you could attend. Below is the copy from the Orbx post. We're considering holding a one-day event, possibly at the Bellevue Hilton, which will be a celebration of the Orbx Pacific Northwest (and NA BLUE series regions). The plan is to have a day-long expo and conference event, followed by a gala dinner. Hre's what we are thinking of including:- Meet and greet the Orbx development team- Presentations by Holger, Bill, JV and other developers- FSX tuning workshop- Scenery design workshops- Guest speakers from the FS industry and other developers, ie Lockheed Martin etc- Sneak previews of beta Orbx products (regions, airports, aircraft)- Hands-on flight booths- Gala 3-course dinner with special guest speaker- Possible Boeing factory tour the following day- Held in the Fall, possibly October/NovemberWe would charge only an amount to cover the costs, I.e. Ballroom hire, audio visual, catering. We are not seeking a profit. The cost would be determined by how many positive replies we get tot this poll. I would factor in somewhere between US$50 - $100, depending on the amount of interest shown. We would also work with the Hilton to get special room rates for those staying overnight. Thanks for your votes! Please, only a yes/no poll answer at this stage, and of course we are thinking of doing an Australian and European event as well, but later in the year or in 2012EDIT: We need at least 150 'yes' votes to even consider making this event work.
  19. they will work seamlessly together and it will enhance the visuals of the FSX world a lot. And yes you had it right where the Scenery Tech info goes, you do not have to do anything else to GEX r UTX to make it work.Kyle
  20. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/335829-flight1-airport-studio-mini-review-amazing-but-not-perfect/this was posted in the FSX forum section but i thought it should be seen here as well.Kyle
  21. thanks for the review, i didnt even know this was out so i will check it out for myself as well.kyle
  22. i had used a 32" screen when i first started unsing FSX but switched to 3 19" non wide screen monitors with a TH2Go. I like using the 3 screens, and i dodnt get wide screen on purpouse because the TH2Go makes them so wide anyway. the view outside is so much better with the th2go then one wide screen monitor i think.
  23. Ok Fr. Bill, if Orbx has not signed a non disclosure form then why would John from Orbx post this:Posted 17 August 2010 - 05:13 AM Let me state the Orbx position very quickly. Since ACES closed I have gone on record on many occasions to clearly state that we will continue to support the Microsoft platform, and only the Microsoft platform. Whilst we have been approached a number of times to port to X-Plane and look at other sim alternatives, my position as CEO has been clear: we're a Microsoft shop and will stay that way.Secondly, please do not ask us for more information, other than what Microsoft themselves have published (as they did today) on public sites for everyone to see. Whilst it's fun to speculate about this new platform, you need to understand we simply cannot say anything at this early stage. Please respect our wishes in that regard. Finally, we are 100% committed to releasing content for this new platform, in whatever guise that may be; of that you have our promise.
  24. with a lot of companies having signed NDF, maybe Microsoft is telling these companies that they can release their products on the MS online store and that MS gets a cut for that product, in return, the 3rd party company gets to sell through a system that helps prevent illegal copies by linking the flight purchase with the 3rd party software (saving them money from piracy ) . I'm just thinking that MS had all these companies sign NDF but was it because they were supplying them the format for Flight or because of the way they are going to let 3rd party seller's interact with Flight.
