Any 'new' news from PCPilot ?

Featured Replies

If anyone has bought it yet, has it provided any 'new insights' about the design or performance aspects of Flight? Any 'new pics' other than Hawaii ? If there are significant updates, I will purchase it.Erich

Oscar Wilde summed up this particular forum section well over a hundred years ago."I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about".This says it all !!!Bob - Las Cruces, NM :(

I went looking for the issue yesterday and checked with a couple Barnes & Nobles in my area but neither had it. The employee I spoke with said that they hadn't received any shipments yesterday at either location. Perhaps the 21st publication date only applies to the U.K.

I hate how we have Facebook, twitter, this forum and MS Flight's website and they decide to give exclusive coverage to a paper magazine. What is this, 1995?

Any new news for Flight in PC Pilot, well not really - same themes which have been visited before in the official website news but does this make me any less excited, absolutely not! I don't want to quote verbatim so I'll give my general impression of what Microsoft are saying.design and performanceThey are desiging this as a brand new title. They want to reach as many people with this title, so are keen to deliver amazing performance with amazing visuals for todays generation of PC's. They realise they have to take a new approach in performance and are taking steps to ensure this is great out the box, so no need to buy a new computer 2 years down the line. online play and the marketplaceMicrosoft are keen to build on both multiplayer and single player experiences. They acknowledge what the community have done and want to help continue to support the virtual airline organisations. Interestingly they want to build the social aspects for online play but generally they want to reach a wider audiance with the online play so hopefully we can expect maybe several modes of play? however they do reiterate that there will be a persistant element to online play, can't be sure what that means - collecting awards? the marketplace was again at the forefront of discussion, but no details were given. It's apparent that they do want to have a portal for products for use with Flight but we don't know at what cost this will be, i.e. is this exclusive to MS what benefits will using the Microsoft Marketplace bring rather than another online shop? All interesting stuff, you'll have to buy the mag if you want to know exactly what MS said. You'll also get a lot more beautiful exclusive pictures of Hawaii as well. Cheers,Dave.

So nothing new then, just more vacuous PR fluff.

I agree. Nice treating of those where PCPilot is not available.

Dave thanks for the feedback. Geez, two months further down the road and that has said absolutely nothing we didn't know already. Oh well...

Thanks Dave I guess we might get more info and pics on E3 I hope.:(

I have been looking forward to the new PC Pilot mainly to learn more about Flight and went to the news agent 3 times before late delivery arrived.Three pages of mainly picture, four bland questions and four replies which hardly told anything not already guessed on this forum. The only positive thing I noticed was the statement that they now want to provide everyone with a fantastic experience on current computers not ones five years from now. With all the enthusiastic speculation around here I feel disappointed at the lack of news and the questions the mag asked. What does that mean? MS is not telling much really. Which today's game can not work on today's PCs? It's a good start but take Crysis 2 for example (I have it) crank it up to the maximum res. + everything else and you'll need a VERY good PC to play it at decent frame rate (more than average PC) so if MS Flight can play on a regular PC without problems that will be a very good start but what will it be with demanding sceneries and airplanes addons set to max settings, will we have to tweak again?I'm sure Flight out of the box will play well on average PC, remember they are targeting the regular folks (moms and dads), IMHO you'll need more than average hardware to run Flight at max settings with demanding addons.

Will there be any "demanding addons" available for MS Flight when it is released?

HelloWell from what I have read there may not be a Flight! version of Fsuipc, so that is me out straight away.No interest at all if I cannot program my hardware.

I'll be surprise not to see any good addons when MS release Flight, I mean what's the purpose of an empty market store. If MS is to make Flight run on an average PC (by today's standard) will it be with or without addons?Addons for Flight should be a lot better than addons for FSX with more eyes candy in it, if MS use SLI for Flight (as seen on Nvidia Inspector) some of the work load will be transfer to the GPU so a lot more scenery detail and resolution can be accomplished and this = less CPU work, can you imagine two GTX 580 in SLI or two GTX 590....:( Today's game are centered more on GPU and less on CPU, if MS can pull this one off about CPU and Flight can make good use of multiple core (as many as you whish, http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=270-WS-W555-A2&family=Motherboard Family&series=Intel 5520 Series Family&sw=5 ..12 core + hyperthreading :( they will be the first one to have a game-simulator with that kind of options and from there the sky would be the limit, no pun intended.

I would assume there will eventually be demanding add ons for Flight. Not on Day 1, but when the third party developers have a go at it. Also, if MS did not accommodate for this, many people would stick with FSX, which has a rich set of good add ons. Or people would stick with FS2004 (will that thing ever die?)
