  1. It looks very nice from the video, but I'm surprised they still haven't addressed the tree size issue. The trees in some of the scenes are four times bigger than the nearest building! Who knows, that might be the case in places but overall it still looks very wrong. I know this complaint is as old as the hills, but why can't they concentrate on fixing global tree sizing as that would bring a lot more realism than anything they can do in localised updates. Anyway, I'll do some exploring tonight 🙂
  2. I re-subscribed to Geforce NOW yesterday and gave FS2024 another go since SP3 has been released. I decided to go in ambitious by setting DLSS to quality at 4k with everything set to ultra. I set the initial airport at London City (useful for stress test) and was getting a steady 70fps. This is even before the announced upgrade happening in September to the 5080's. I will admit it did drop to 50fs moving around at Heathrow (another stress test) but it visually ok poked superb and very impressive from a performance perspective. Think I'll be spending a lot more time in DS2024 now that some of the performance issues seem to have been ironed out
  3. I was just watching this video of an aircraft taxiing from the ramp to runway at Heathrow: I notice that the airport has an interesting automated taxi system where an aircraft simply follows the line of green lights. They stop at a red barrier where necessary and it works for most if not all routes across the airport. Would this be possible to implement in FS2024? I just think it's a pretty cool system and one I personally was not aware of. Apparently other airports that use a similar system include Paris Charles de Gaulle, Singapore Changi Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport. Maybe it's too much effort for too little in the way of coverage. I imagine other airports have their own interpretations of these as well.
  4. Not sure if anyone has seen this, but I signed in to GFN yesterday and spotted that you can play MSFS 2024 on it: The reason I signed up in the first place is because my PC is a couple of generations old now. I do play games other than MSFS so thought GFN was a cost effective method of playing the latest and greatest without investing £5k+. My machine can run MSFS 2024 but I do have to dial it back quite a way. I loaded it up and it works surprisingly well given the game is heavy on both CPU and GPU. I was able to push the settings to the max in 4K with frame generation and it was very smooth. I say smooth as I wasn't able to verify the exact numbers as for some reason the FR (Non dev-mode counter) was showing 143-144 constantly which I don't think is accurate (more my monitors refresh rate). Didn't have time to connect up my HOTAS Warthog, pedals and everything but had a quick play with my Xbox controller instead and it works flawlessly. I'm really very impressed and besides obviously having limitations like not being able to install mods etc, for using the standard product it's excellent. If you've got the service or are struggling with your performance on your PC (and have a decent connection), it might be worth considering.
  5. Performance was a massive bag of poop in FS2020 for me in built up areas. Whatever changes they've made in FS2024 have certainly benefitted my machine. I have a 3090 with a 10900K and can happily run it in 4k at near max settings now. Obviously not running at 60, but smooth enough for me (30-40) in built up areas. If I did want that then I can always use the frame generation app in steam at 2X. It's funny though as everyone was saying 2020 was buttery smooth for them and there was me struggling to reach 25fps... dropping the resolution also did nothing. All of a sudden with this new version it seems the tables have turned.
  6. [EDIT] It seems like this has fixed itself. For some reason I suddenly changed into an elderly oriental lady and I was able to change my appearance from there!
  7. I was hoping one of you could help me. Basically during all of the troubles we had with FS2024 at launch, when I eventually did get past the 97%, none of the identity objects (or planes... or anything else!) was loading. I skipped and accepted everything regardless as I wanted to see if I could fly. Roll on a couple of days and now everything has calmed down a bit, I want to have a go at Career. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have an identity which seems to break the career. What I do see is this person holding a sign: When I try and change it in the appearance the game crashes. I've tried deleting my local game files, uninstalling + reinstalling but it's always the same thing. I've even tried deleting my cloud save using "start shell:appsFolder\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App -DeleteCloudSaves". This works in that it resets all my settings, but as soon as it gets through to the customize your identity bit, I get this model again which I can't change. It crashes the game whenever I try to change it to something else. Has anyone fixed this? I really want to play Career, but so far I can only do free flight and the challenges. I hope I don't have to wait for a fix for this to be released.
  8. 2024 now loads fine every time I start it up. It usually takes between 1-2 minutes for it to get to the initial menu options. I had my first proper flight and performance is surprisingly good, much better than I've found in 2020 with my RTX 3090. Unfortunately I've only been able to run from one airport as after the first flight, it just went into the perpetually loading screen after an airport has been selected. It seems they are still having server issues, but so far am happy that progress is being made.
  9. Even though impressions for some are underwhelming, at least you can run the thing! So far I've crashed 4 times on startup. The one time I did get in, nothing was loading up. I just clicked through the buttons and eventually managed to get to free flight mode. Well... I think I must have clicked the wrong button in Xbox as this looks closer to Minecraft than it does FS 😑 It seems like regardless of the time of day it's being hammered. Even the airport lookup is broken for me. I think I'll leave it a couple of days and come back to it then.
  10. If that is true, I find it bizarre that they can consider games which have yet to be released in the running for game awards considering the fact that no-one has played it yet - not even reviewers! As such, how can they possibly award something for which they have no knowledge of. I would be very surprised if 2024 doesn't make an appearance at the next game awards. I appreciate why it's not included in this one, but if it's left out of the next one I think they have some serious flaws in their selection process.
  11. NOTE: Apologies if there's already a thread for this - If there is then please delete this one. As we're now one day from release, what is everyones first flight going to be? I imagine most will probably start ploughing through the Career mode. For me, I always have my default go-to airport which is Bembridge on the Isle of Wight (UK). It's a very small airport that is not really noteworthy except to those which fly it. I've spent many a holiday over there and love the island. I'll do do a VFR flight around the island and then land again 🙂 It may now show off the simulators best side given that there is no photogrammetry, but it will just familiarise myself with the new sim given I missed the alpha. A second for me will probably be the London City just to see how my PC holds up 😐
  12. I have a 3090 and struggled to run FS2020 in a smooth way around any urban centres. Frame gen is really a game changer and since you've got a 40 series card I'd definitely enable it. Unfortunately for me I was one generation too early to take benefit. Saying that though, I've been using Lossless Scaling from Steam with 2X, 3X (and now 4X) frame generation at the expense of some latency and I've been more than happy with the output. So long as you're not playing competitive FPS, it will definitely will be the way I'll be playing 2024.
  13. I used to get congratulated each month for the data I used with my last ISP. "Way to go! You downloaded 1.5TB this month, keep it up." I don't think they care unless you're exceeding their fair-use policy. With a lot using gaming cloud streaming services, I don't think they'd even look at you twice. Start downloading at 1Gb/s 24/7 and they might though.
  14. Hopefully this image works, but the short video showing the field with the crop duster where they showed it from a different angle looks amazing. They mentioned about getting the AI to analyse fields so that they would have one or 20-30 different crops. It all sounds too good to be true 😍 Obviously there is some manual input into the above farm as it is for a mission, but looking in the distance you can imagine how the higher quality ground assets really pushes the visual fidelity to a new level.
  15. Strangely enough, I was hoping that this would happen when the announcement was made. Hordes of sim fans descending onto their nearest Microsoft office to protest against it and make them re-consider their actions. Unfortunately, that was never going to happen, but one can dream :( . The best way to protest at the moment is either not download it or post a message on their facebook page.
