June 2, 20251 yr I was just watching this video of an aircraft taxiing from the ramp to runway at Heathrow: I notice that the airport has an interesting automated taxi system where an aircraft simply follows the line of green lights. They stop at a red barrier where necessary and it works for most if not all routes across the airport. Would this be possible to implement in FS2024? I just think it's a pretty cool system and one I personally was not aware of. Apparently other airports that use a similar system include Paris Charles de Gaulle, Singapore Changi Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport. Maybe it's too much effort for too little in the way of coverage. I imagine other airports have their own interpretations of these as well.
June 2, 20251 yr Cool and thanks. I was not aware at all. And yep I'd be interested by such a feature for FS2024. If feasible, guys like FS2Crew or guys doing pushback utilities would be in good position IMHO. Edited June 2, 20251 yr by Simicro FS2024
June 2, 20251 yr A long way off follow the greens, but https://stopbars.com might be of interest if you’re a VATSIM user.
June 2, 20251 yr It's called SMGCS Surface Movement Guidance and Control System. You will find it at a lot of major airports where there's low visibility. I haven't actually had to taxi with it real world, but you get a dose of it during recurrent sims. Definitely would have solved some of the issues we have had in the past where crews were lost and were not where they thought they were during taxi. Many airports now have a tracking system where you squawk during taxi with your TCAS in standby. They can monitor your taxi that way and still bring in a level of safety. Be nice if third party airports and third party ATC could come up with this in sim. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/

Paris CDG has also Follow-the-Greens... It would be a really nice addition. But (there's always a but) the MSFS ATC engine needs really major other improvement before adding new features. Vincent B. If so, good to know, I have gotten into this habit of not turning it on until I'm at the hold short line. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
June 2, 20251 yr In US, as far as I remember it's ON all the time. I think it changed in late 2012... Vincent B. Check my free MSFS sceneries : https://flightsim.to/profile/vbazillio/trending and my hardware configuration.

You would set the transponder to XPDR as part of the cleared for start flow while on stand before pushback, not the TA/RA TCAS position which is then selected as part of the runway line up actions. Turning on the XPDR starts squinting ADS-B data that will then light you up on the controller’s surface movement indicator display, and also the worlds flight following apps. The TA/RA is kept off until lining up to keep everyone’s TCAS display from cluttering up, especially the guys landing into a busy airport. The green light system at LHR is very good, the rest of the airport…not so much. 787 captain.
