How do you config FSX to manually start aircraft?

Featured Replies

I apologize if this has been asked before, but searching this forum is not working. All my aircrafts in FSX start with engines and avionics turned on. How do you config the simulator to have all aircraft turned off at the beginning of a flight?thanks.

You would first start your flight as normal, shut down all aircraft systems.Once happy with the situation save the flight and check the box "save as default flight".

You may not really want to save your cold and dark flight as default. I have heard pros & cons ad naseum. Why not simply save the C & D flight in your saved flights folder and open as you wish from the free flight screen of FSX?

Because then you only have the option to Fly now and you can't change airport, flightplan, weather, time of day, etc. etc. etc. until AFTER the flight has loaded... and then you have to change all those option one at a time, which takes ages of course. I never had any problems with my own made default flights (not with the PMDG MD-11, not with the Carenado C182RG, not with the RealAir Scout etc. etc.)I also heard about possible problems, but so far all is cool here!

You can change these parameters if you have set your flight as the default flight by checking the Default flight checkbox when you save the flight. Do not confuse this with the flight named "Default flight". Name your flight anything you want and check the IIRC "Make this flight the default flight" checkbox when you save the flight. You can also make any of your flights the start up flight by editing the FSX.CFG file. Find the config line that looks like this:SITUATION= (Under the [uSERINTERFACE] section.) Just change the flight named after SITUATION= to any of your saved flights but don't spell it incorrectly or FSX won't be able to find it.

LOL :( I know, and that's exactly what I meant to say: woodhick said NOT to save the flight as default and then you can NOT change these parameters. :( So yes, I would also save the flight as default, just as Cloud9 did in the meantime. :(

Well I'm totally confused by all the cans and can nots. You can change any/all configurations you desire when saving a flight as C & D, but not as a default flight. Or did everyone already know that? Since I have more than one saved C & D flight, I don't save any of them as default. Only as saved flights in the free flight folder. There, I said it and I'm glad. :(

Yes Mr MS didn't help when he labelled a box "Make this the default flight" it should have said "Make this the startup Flight". When this box is checked when the flight is named and saved it will be the flight that is loaded on the next FSX startup not a flight named Default which also happens to exist as part of the FSX installation. :(
