Cherokee

Featured Replies

Hi,I asked about this issue once when the aircraft was first released, but a fix was unavailable from the developer at the time. The window tint is far too dark for me to enjoy flying this model so it remains almost forgotten in my hanger. Is there a replacement texture available that really neutralizes the tint on the Cherokee, allowing bright scenery to come through unchanged? A long time ago someone (I think on the FTX forum) sent me a replacement texture, but it barely altered the original. It would be great to be able to fly it again from time to time if a workaround or fix could be had. I like looking out the windows and seeing all the expensive FTX scenery I bought. I hope someone here felt the same way and found a solution.Thank you in advance,Stephen :(

Do you have something like Photoshop? Then download DXTBmp, open the file that has the window-texture/transparency in it and make the alpha-channel completely black: you will see zero tint anymore. I don't like those fake reflections and (sometimes awful) tints various devs put in the windows, so I always get rid of them this way. With DX9 you can also simply rename the file that holds the reflections. If you still want a tint or reflection, but less, don't make the alpha channel completely black but just darker.

Stephen - in case you have little experience with repainting:I may take a look at the file tomorrow evening, and see what can be done to it..... :(

Spirit flyer...I did a repaint last last year for her, actually a couple... I posted them on OZx, but here is one that I took the tint out of the windows...clear windows..! My paints there for the Cherokee (I'm known as Po' on OZx) all should have the clear window patch..(for the Cherokee anyway)Here' the link for VH-UZR for which I know for sure its got clear windows (and a nice paint to go with it).. *Note-that I tinted the windows Dark on the outside only.. when in the VC..Its CLEAR windows.. no tint inside. VH-UZR Paint and Clear Window Patch Download Carefully read the install instructions...If you have and probs..let me know here...Later if you want to install that window patch intoyour other Cherokee paints...we'll go over that if you like what you see...good luck...

Thanks Jercen and Gunnar. I did not know that about the black textures. I do not have photoshop, so Gunnar I will take you up on it if Sky-6's texture does not fit the bill, but I will give it a try first. Thanks for responding Carenado. I probably should have asked you again had I thought of it. I will contact you and get it for the other birds besides Sky's repaint. Thank you for your kind and helpful responses.Stephen

Hi Carenado,I just sent you an email at [email protected] quoting my purchase number and enclosing a copy of my original letter to you on this subject dated August 2008. Thank you for the help in getting the modified texture.Stephen

In relation to this...I have always modified the tint in the windows, yet that also gets rid of the reflections, which I usually enjoy. Is there any way to remove the tint but keep the reflections?

I haven't tried this myself, but you could try to copy the 'illustration' of reflections, which usually are in the texture itself (the picture) into the alpha channel (as a negative). The alpha channels regulates what you see of the of the texture. Now image the texture itself only has a grayish color and instead the alpha channel has the 'picture' of the reflection in negative, then the complete dark parts would be completely transparent in FSX, but the parts that are various shades of (dark) grey in the alpha channel (which would be the actual reflections) would show up in FSX. If you know what I mean. For the C185F I made the alpha channel completely black to get transparent windows, apart from the dirt on the edges of the window: I left those spots grey in the channel and so they show up, slightly transparent, in the VC while the rest of the window is 100% transparent.Hope you know what I mean... :(
