July 30, 200322 yr Hi folks,I was just wondering, how do you remove DirectX? I installed a "new" graphics card last night, a GeForce 4 MX440 64Mb (not that new, but cheap!) and have accidently installed DirectX 9.I am experiencing problems with FS2002 with missing menus, corrupted text and crashes. The sim crashes when I switch to external view, and the crash is total - it's a switch off and back on job. I think this may be linked to my mistake! I installed the first set of Detonator drivers, 28.32, as downloads of 40.xx were not working and Windows XP's drivers were REALLY old!!Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.
July 30, 200322 yr Use System Restore - unless you have it disabled, it should have created a restore point just prior to installing DX9.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
July 30, 200322 yr Commercial Member As long as you're using the latest Nvidia driver from www.nvidia.com you shouldn't be having any issues with DirectX9. Are you sure you uninstalled the old card's drivers first? If you don't have a system restore point, there is no way to "uninstall" DirectX as it's part of the OS. July 31, 200322 yr There is a way. You cannot however reinstall DX8 over DX9, that wont work. Also the DX9 files have imbedded system files for XP so you cant uninstall it the normal way. Someone wrote a reinstall script for DX8.1 using a batch process. You will need your original XP install disk to do this. YOu can find the details and the batch files at the following address: http://www.3dcht4u.de/3dc/p24d5fe/directx-dx9uninstaller.zip(Use at your own discression)I tried it once and it worked OK. Also remember that GF MX cards are not DX9 compatible, no matter who tells you otherwise. The best drivers in my opinion for this card is the 29.82 detonators. (The 30.x drivers also work OK) Anything above that starts giving problems.
