March 11, 201016 yr I was having difficulties getting my Q6600 system stable at a 3.2 GHz overclock, after a 2GB to 4GB memory upgrade (which is FSB=356 X 9 on my Asus P5K motherboard). Then, I tried selecting DDR2 800MHZ memory in the BIOS instead of leaving it on Auto. This has resulted in a stable system with memory running at 6:5 X FSB which amounts to 854 MHz.Before the memory upgrade, I was running memory at 1:1 X FSB which I thought was the optimum setting. Is there any reason to want to revert to a 1:1 setting, or is 6:5 (which is faster) actually better? March 11, 201016 yr Author Is there any reason to want to revert to a 1:1 setting, or is 6:5 (which is faster) actually better? After reading up on this, it would appear that the opinions are split: Some swear by 1:1 and otherssay "go as fast as your memory will go".Since my 4 GB seem to be quite happy at 854MHz even though they are rated at 800, and thatwithout changing any voltages... I think I'll just stick with this setting. Bert
March 11, 201016 yr 850mhz for RAM rated @ 800 isn't too big of a step. I wouldn't anticipate any issues down the road running at that speed. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
