FSX visibility at higher altitudes

Featured Replies

Hi allJust wondering if theres anyway you can tweak the fsx.cfg to reduce the visibility at altitudes above say FL280. The prob im having is that when I climb to a higher altitude the horizon is visible past the cloud draw distance and I have the cloud draw distance set to max. Is there anyway to reduce the max visibilty so that the horizon matches up with the max cloud draw distance?Richard

You can use an external weather program such as Active Sky Evolution that has lower and upper visibility settings or if you are using FSX's internal download, you can add a second high level visibility layer in the advanced options part of the weather configuration - just make sure that automatic weather updates are not configured since this will erase the layer you have added.

I also have an add-on for FSX, "Soft Horizons", which I created from my original FS2004 add-on. It should help the high altitude clouds blend much better into the distance for you if you want to give it a try. The only drawback of my FSX version is if you like to slew out to space (which I haven't done in over a year), my add-on makes for an abrupt transition between the atmosphere and space. You can find Soft Horizons here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...amp;DLID=133758Regards,John

Hi Another way is to check the user defined weather~custom~advance weather~visibility tab, then set the slider to 40/64 (my preferred) then in the Tops MSL fill it with 9's ie 999999then ok.This gives a nice modern world haze all the way up and a nice fps boost, you wont see that horrible transition as you pass through the layer Wozza

Well Ive tried the suggestions and the Soft horizons is good but it replaces the sky themes im using. Is there no way in the FSX.cfg for someone to edit what the max unlimited visibility is, so like my cloud draw is max set at 110 miles, can you not add some text in the FSX.cfg that would reduce the Visibility to about 100 miles?Richard
