FS9 Loading Time Impact

Featured Replies

Here I come again,How much hit effect does it have to create a folder inside Aircraft Folder where there'll be more Aircraft Folders on FS9 Loading Time.Example: X:\...\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\AI Traffic\A320 X:\...\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\AI Traffic\A319 X:\...\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\AI Traffic\A321 ... X:\...\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\AI Traffic\ANYMODELI want to do this in order to set the traffic for VATSIM. I mean, I'm planning to write a SB *.sms file which would include all those models. However I already have ~10GB on AI Traffic and it takes like 5 mins to load. I'd like to know what effect would it have to make this new folder.I ask it because as FS9 will be unable to read it as an Aircraft Folder (there's no MODEL/PANEL/TEXTURE/SOUND inside), maybe it will just overlook this new folderand it won't hit the load time. The big big problem would come if FS9 reads this folder as well. I imagine it would run me up to 20 mins in loading time. Thanks!

Hello,Why not try it yourself in first place .. ?And if you have problems .. ask here again ....Regards.bye.gifGus.

After reading and responding to you posts yesterday and today it has become semi apparent to me that you may be trying to use flyable aircraft as AI. Thus your desire to re-size textures etc. First using flyable aircraft as AI is a big no no, . . . a real big hit on performance. Secondly, if these flyable aircraft are being used as AI and are still viewable in the aircraft selection menu instead of being properly set to non viewable in the airfile, that would account for your extremely long load times. For example; I have 268 AI related folders in may aircraft folder, with quite a few having 99 texture set ( or paints ) in each. It takes FS9 about 35 seconds to load up to the selection menu and if I move some flyable aircraft outside of the FS folder that time decreases even more. My advice would be to rethink how you are going about things, IMHO of course!Regards,Mel

Hey, Mel. Thanks again for coming up.Well, no. I wish that could be my case but all the aircraft I use for AI are AI dedicated. I use separated flyable aircraft for myself.Still, AI traffic makes up to 13 GB of data on my Aircraft folder. That increases the load up time to around 6 min. I heard there's an utility called HideAI or something like that. But, to my understanding, it only prevents the AI Traffic from showing up in the Aircraft Selection Listwhich is not my problem right now. Anyway, I d/w the utility but for some reason I can't get to use it.Any ideas whatsoever?

How long has it been since you defragmented your hard drive? A severely fragmented hard drive will increase load time. Again, if the AI are showing in the aircraft selection menu = big increase in load times. Try "AirEd" by:William M. Roth availabe here at AVSIM. Traffic does not load until you select a flight and click 'Fly Now'. Only textures and data (scenery, aircraft airfiles, etc) load at start-up. (Simple explanation.)Regards,Mel

Here's my 2 cents worth. FS9 will still read this folder as SB has a VIP folder within the main aircraft folder in which all those AI models & texture files reside.I get what you're trying to do but. Maybe try the defrag first, I have well over 1500 AI aircraft for VATSIM and my system loads in less than a minute. Can't hurt.

Are you speaking of initial startup time or the time to load after "creating a flight? As I understand it, FS checks "everything" upon initial startup (after your computer has been off and has been started fresh). If you have a lot of aircraft - of any type, AI and/or flyable - that will dramatically increase the initial startup time - at least it sure does on my XP - FS2004 amd FSX setups.Subsequent restarts of FS take less time as I have been told that some items are held in prefetch.I any case I have found that reducing the number of installed AI aircraft (and their associated Traffic files) makes a noticeable difference on my system.

I have close to 1000 entries in my scenery cfg and around 15 gigs in AI files, plus 25 different payware and freeware aircraft. It used to take almost 8-10 mins for FS9 to get from start to sitting at a gate. Since I installed Win7 x64 with ready boost enabled, it now takes about 3 mins from when I click the FS9 icon to sitting at the gate.

mmm. Thanks you all for answering my question.I guess I'll have to learn to deal with it. Besides AI Traffic fuels FS9. I'll make a try as soon as I'm able to (exams now grrr) and let you knowRegards,
