April 1, 201016 yr Hi all-I just rec'd my new system from Jetline a few hours ago and am getting it set up slowly. I have a few questions right of the bat for those of you have been running the high performance systems for a while. On my older AMD system, I used the frame rate limiter with very good success. Is this utility still effective on the i7s? I also see that a 186.18 nVidia driver was installed by them. Any suggestions on a newer driver (GTX285) or should I let that be? I'm sure I'll have many more questions later on but if you have any other suggestions I would appreciate it.Thanks,Mark
April 1, 201016 yr Congratulations on your new computer Mark. While I see mentions of frame rate limiter, I never understood why it was necessary in FSX since the program includes an option to limit frame rates already. That video card driver does seem old. I've been using the same driver since last year and it's 195.62. The latest non-beta is 197.13. I've had problems with driver updates in the past and had to revert back, especially due to the affect on multiple displays. Art
April 1, 201016 yr Author Thanks, Art. This is going to be a huge project moving/reinstalling everything. I'll check out the drivers later. Mark
April 1, 201016 yr Hi Art,I use FPS Limiter with FSX set to unlimited myself. I run FSX at unlimited because I get better performance than if I lock down the FPS within FSX, I don't know the reasons behind the better performance I just know the sim runs better. The problem I have runnning unlimited FPS from within FSX is wild FPS fluctuations, FPS Limiter just about eliminates (10 FPS Swing) these fluctuations. The end result is better performance running FSX at unlimited and the wild FPS fluctuations are under control. April 1, 201016 yr I have never seen the need for that Frame Limiter thing. Overclock that i7 up towards 4.0GHz and you won't need it anyway. At stock speeds the i7's struggle on FSX so overclocking is recommended, even if you just do a mild one into the low3.0'sI have the 285 card and I think I run the latest driver. 196.xx? something, can't remember exactly, at work can't check. I used to hang back in the 180's but now am confident I can move on. There's barely any difference that I can see between one driver and the next really. April 1, 201016 yr Author Thanks Mike. I think I'll give the limiter a try when I get everything underway. It worked really well with my older AMD system; I couldn't really fly without it.
