April 3, 201016 yr I am trying to fly the Twin Falls SID from KSLC 34R to KBOI. How is this done to comply with the altitude restrictions? I have been told by airline pilots to set a higher altitude and the FMS will comply with the SID restrictions meaning the aircraft through the FMS will climb the aircraft. Any help would be appreciated.ThanksDon Don Lillard
April 3, 201016 yr Enter FL230 or assigned altitude in the FCP, and put the altitude and speed restrictions in the FMS. An overline indicates "at or below FL230". An underline indicates "at or above 13,000".Paul

April 3, 201016 yr The sidstar procedure should put it into the FMS where you can see it on the legs page, such as A13000. My procedure should read exactly the same as the Navigraph for this is a RNAV SID:SID TWF1 FIX BOYNT AT OR ABOVE 13000 FIX CGULL AT OR ABOVE 15000 FIX MOFER AT OR BELOW 23000 SPEED 250 FIX SCOVL FIX TWFThose altitude values are put into the FMS for you. You can set you MCP higher than FL230 and the FMS should hold you below that constraint until passed. This is very common, see also the KLAS departures. If the Navigraph procedure isn't doing this, get ahold of my sidstar collection in the AVSIM library. Dan Downs KCRP
April 4, 201016 yr Author Thanks. I will try this. I set the initial altitude to 15000 thinking the MD11 would hold at 10000 until it was time to climb. Is there a reason to set the altitude higher than FL 230 or should have FL150 worked and I would have just had to change the altitude again?ThanksDon Don Lillard
April 4, 201016 yr Why would you want to hold at 10000? The time to climb if you are burning fuel is as soon as you can. These guys want to get to thin air as soon as they can.Departing KSLC, I would set my ALT to whatever the cruise altitude is going to be, above all the constraints, because the FMS will observe the constraints such as being at or below 23000 at MOFER automatically. If I were flying with an ATC service, the ALT is set to whatever I am cleared to, which is usually the ceiling of whatever ATC sector I happen to be talking to until cleared to high sector controller.
