FSX and windows 7

Featured Replies

Hi to everyoneI am planning to update my pc from windows XP to 7, and I would like to perform a full reinstall of FSX on the new machine to get rid of unused files. But i've heard that windows 7 cannot read DVDs made for XP, so I'm planning to install the game by copying every file on the DVD into various folders and then transfer these folders into the new computerThe problem is: I don't know how to run the installation files once they're in the new hard disk. Most important: in a normal installation of FSX after installing disc 1 you are prompted to insert disk 2 and it will run automatically; how can I do it in my case?Last question: is there anyone who has FSX on win7 that can tell me his impressions and maybe some tips?thank you very much!

I'm not sure where you heard Windows7 wouldn't read the FSX DVD's but I can assure you it will. I just did a fresh install last night. No problems.

The FSX DVD's work fine with Windows 7. I have installed it with no problems. You could create two .iso files (one from each DVD) and then mount them on a virtual DVD drive to install FSX but I really think that's unnecessary. Why not install Windows 7 as a dual boot along with the existing Windows XP? That would allow you to install FSX into the Windows 7 partition and be sure that all works well before getting rid of the original XP installation. FSX is running fine for me with Windows 7. The framerate in WinXP was a little better but not enough to matter. Of course, that will always vary from machine to machine.Ciao - Doug
