Charts for Canadian NWT?

Featured Replies

I am starting a scenery project to include many of the airports in the Northwest Territories of Canada...I want to purchase the appropriate Canadian VFR charts to cover the NWT...Can someone advise me which charts I need? I don't want to buy the wrong ones, as they are expensive ($16.95 is the cheapest I have found)...Thanks a lot...Steve in Kansas

The Pete & Sid's Viva Scenery series includes 20 airports in the NWT, and we've also done very detailed versions of Hay River and Yellowknife. You might want to check and see which ones have already been done so you don't waste time duplicating reinventing the wheel. Of course there's no rule against making your own version of an airport if you don't like someone elses'. :(I'm not sure I see what use the VFR charts will be to you as they show no airport detail. What were you planning on using them for?

Sir: Thanks for the tip on your sceneries...I have downloaded them and they are much better than any I could create! I guess I will move on to another area...Maybe I will try to do some of the really small airports in the NWT or thereabouts...Thanks again,Steve

I was going to use the VFR charts to get a better idea of just where the airports are located...Steve

There are probably hundreds of small airports waiting to be done in NWT, Yukon, Nunavut and Alaska. In the NW lower 48 there are entire states like Colorado and Wyoming where very few airports have been done, even the larger ones. You should have enough to keep you occupied until a ripe old age. :( I usually just use the FS map to find airports and then locate them in Google Earth to get a detailed view. Not all airports in Google Earth are in high enough resolution to be useful, but many of them are. It's an invaluable tool. For U.S. airports you can also use Skyvector.com....it's great for vfr flying as well.

That's where the Plan-G app can come in very handy.scott s..
I plan to do some research over the next few days and put together a list of airports that I want to enhance...As you said, there should be plenty of smaller places to work on...Thanks for the advice...Steve

Good luck. Scenery design is only slightly more addictive than crack, and much cheaper. :(
