April 14, 201016 yr I never did get this plane but there were many if I remember that loved the plane. Because the plane has been available for quite awhile, old threads on performance I think are invalid since so many of us have upgraded hardware since this was released. If you are still flying this bird, can you give me some feedback on performance and hardware you are using?RegardsBob G
April 14, 201016 yr Tonight, Bob! This is one of those 'planes with character. I never had issues with it's performance, or how it affected FSX, but, like you say - systems change, and I haven't flown it since upgrading both hard and software. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

A few weeks ago I thought about installing it again, but my upgraded hardware has already been taken to the limit with higher settings (obviously, why else should I get new hardware :( ), so I am flying on the edge of what's possible now (like I am sure everybody else is too!). Things look WAY better than they did when I bought the DO27! Anyway, the thing is: I am 100% SURE the DO27 will bring my current balance down... Hardware may be better indeed, but the DO27 is still a 'heavy' plane.Apart from that: I wouldn't buy it anymore because the guy who developed it has left the building, so the product is a bit dead right now... You won't be able to get 'direct' support from it anymore. And apart from that again: I fly above PNW and I remember that the DO27 blocked a lot of the outside view and I don't like that anymore.
April 14, 201016 yr hi,This plane is great but is too hard on FPS for my 5 years old system in FSX. The FPS is less than ten whereas it is OK with the A2A B377 for example. For me it is only flyable in FS9. My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
April 14, 201016 yr Just had a flight around Lunceston (FTX scenery) all sliders maxed apart from mesh resolution 10ms; water mid 2x and autogen very dense with active sky evolution controlling the clouds (2048 FEX) I7 at 4.2ghz windows 7 64bit. Frames locked at 25 and pretty much stayed there. Next test Heathrow 100% UT2 Commercial with the same slider settings. Pretty much the same with Gex Europe no cars boats but pretty heavy cloud cover.Your milage may vary.Bryan.Edit: sorry meant to say FSX not FS9.
April 14, 201016 yr Fly it often in FS9. Using Core2 Duo oc to 4.1GHz with 4G RAM and an 8800GT and still get frame hits especially in bad wx. Was prepared to buy it for FSX but didn't hear anything good concerning it being merely a port-over and not a true FSX product... Rick

What were your system specs when you originally were flying it?ThanksBob
April 14, 201016 yr Hey Paul, you gotta let me know. What were your system specs when you originally were flying it?ThanksBobHey Thanks Everyone!!! Nice to get so much information. From the average here, it doesnt look like it has a very good review, and I was unaware of the visibility in the cockpit. I too like to look around. I don't fly the twins to often because of that. Again, Thanks All!!Hey Paul, I still would like to have your input. Maybe you should change the oil first and look for anything that may have crawled into the venturi tubes.Bob
April 14, 201016 yr Just finished, Bob. The visibility isn't too bad: I would say something like the Mohawk, down and forward, but with no overhead and your shoulder/ear area being blind as well. She drops about 8 frames on the ground at Arlington - 17fps, but rising toward 20-21 at 1000ft. FSX is locked at 25, and almost other every aircraft stays at that rate. This is the first time it's been pulled down, and it's too bad, because this is a nice, realistic aircraft to fly. It's a bugger to start: it shakes: things break: it burns oil, and so on. I use this base because it's a mix of urban housing; some industrial area; some farming, with a major highway through it, so lots of traffic - and KPAE nearby. Seattle is very hard on any pc, and it's a bit unfair to use it as a measure; lots of folks like VFR and FTX has provided that in an incredible abundance. I haven't flown the Maddog in a couple of weeks, and to do it justice I have to haul back a few things. I was running a C2D e6600 oc @ 3.2 with the 9800gtx, but as someone else said - you tweak it as hard as you can, and use it at that level. It's not "ok" to have to wind it back, even if it's still better than the old clunker. Maybe you should change the oil first and look for anything that may have crawled into the venturi tubes.A year in Guyana, South America made sure I do that... :( i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

I remembered reading alot of posts on this but could not remember if they left the plane hanging with issues. It looks like I might have to give it a shot. I will need to discuss this with the Finance manager first :( I do like the Seattle area very much as it has alot to offer. I have a fairly strong machine but I have been flying nothing more taxing than Carenado, the L39 and a couple of others. These are nice models in many respects and very light on frames. Because of this I have been able to turn up the outside world and enjoying it. Not sure if I want to cut back on the autogen and clouds, but I think I need a change as these planes I fly are so dang reliable it is almost not real :( Bob

My favorite aircraft for PNW are - to get somewhere quickly - the A2A Spit Mk1: I guess my American buddies might use the P51. Next comes the A2A Cub of course, for it's floats and big wheels: then almost any chopper, so you can get down into the streets and have a look-see. I picked up that Cap10b the other day, and it's a good candidate: more modern; aerobatic, modern radios, great visibility and pretty quick, too. Orbx's PNW, the i7 and ******* have opened up a whole new world! i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

I heard the A2A is really a nice bird though. I really need to invest in an i7 as my 9650, although a good cpu just cant cut it with some of the newer scenery and complex AC. I will have to wait, but the good thing is the i7 should be fairly cheap in 6 months or so. I agree with the new tweaks from *******, and it seems he doesnt get much sleep. He must be a youngin!!Thanks PaulTalk to you soon.Bob
