April 15, 201016 yr Hey guys - i am using FSX I currently have a Q9550 @ 3.5ghz and i want to upgrade from my 4890. The reason for my upgrade is that im not happy with my card, its having a tough time with the AA and AF ( on the FPS ) and the REX clouds i think... Ive read around that the ATI cards are not as good as ATI when it comes to Flight SimX, and REX clouds. Right now im not getting great frame rates at all and i want to get it higher, im getting around <10 fps in ORBX YMML with AI in the PMDG 744 with moderate weather ( REX Clouds) and when im above the clouds, frames still drop when heaps of clouds are in sight. ive tried heaps of tweaks too.My Question to you is...With a Q9550 @ 3.5ghz what is the better card for FSX, a GTX 275 or 285 or a HD5850 ? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks HEaps!
April 15, 201016 yr If you wish to go about nHancer settings and all that choose an nVidia card, and I can recommend the 285. "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
April 15, 201016 yr and I recommend the ATI HD-5xxx if you plan to use 2 displays or more. If you want to play only at one display at a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 I would also recommend the GTX-285. Asus Rampage II Extreme X58, i7 920 @4 GHz, 12GB RAM OCZ Platinum @1.646MHz 7-7-7-20 (1T), Noctua NH-U12P SE1366, Sapphire HD-5870 Vapor-X , 30" Dell @2560x1600 pixel, SSD Intel X-25 M for OS, 1 TB WD Caviar Green for FSX, be quiet Dark Power Pro P7 650W AT, Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion + Teufel 5.1 Surround Set, LG Blu-Ray-ROM LG DVD+/-RW, Aerocool FP-01 Flip-Panel, Lian Li ARMORSUIT P60 black, Windows7 64bit Ultimate.
April 15, 201016 yr The 5870 still lags with clouds and extremely dense autogen (flying over forests kills my gpu), but works fine for very dense. It still struggles with REX clouds, and I keep the clouds visual to 60 m at minus 1 - 2 notches from the max.Vsync sucks with the ATI. I still can't figure it out with the ATI tray tools.I'll probably be upgrading the the 480 when I hear how it performs for others. But general consensus is that the 285 is the best card released (as the 480 isn't proven yet, and only one test run with the 470 from 1 member here)
