PMDG MD-11 in FSX

Featured Replies

I could use some help with this issue. I installed the MD-11 and the load manager but now it takes 1:10 for FSX to start. The same is true when I try to select another aircraft. Is this normal or have I messed something up. My frame rates are still fine and I don't have any other issue. Thanks

The plot thickens. When I try to fly a mission in FSX, for example Telluride Landing, the aircraft is at 4,400' not 12,000'. The airspeed is much higher than it should be and the plane can't be slowed.I may be in the wrong Forum, but I didn't have this problem before loading the MD-11. I'm not sure how to proceed. I don't want to make it worse but I can't fly like this.Any help would be appreciated.Bill Buxton

Hi Bill, To answer one statement you made about the wrong forum, yeah there is an MD-11 section here just to let you know for future ref.It sounds like something may be wrong with your install. I don't think you screwed anything up, computers can do all that for us, unassisted even, hehe. I can't speak for the FSX Missions since I haven't flown any with any but defaults but for the other issue of FSX hanging on start. I would download and reinstall all the latest C++ packages from Microsoft. If you have a 64 bit OS then download both the 32 & 64 bit version of both 2005 and 2008 and see how it is then.If that doesn't help then it is probably your FSX.cfg causing your delays. Delete it (or move to another loacation) and have FSX build another one. You could also do the same by holding CTRL+Shift while you load FSX but that will rebuild your control settings also. Finally, make sure your not loading any Saved Default flights with a PMDG or other intense addon aircraft. There are many issues with doing that alone and should be avoided.Hope this helps,

Thanks for your response. I have indeed been starting FSX with the MD-11 included in the default flight. I changed that but the program is still hanging on start and when a change of aircraft is selected. I also started the program with CTRL/SHIFT but still no change.I haven't downloaded and installed the C++ files because that is new territory for me. I'm not sure which ones to use or how to proceed. I have a 32 bit system running Win 7.

Try running the MD11 installer and selecting repair. It should also repair the C++ files.

I tried running the repair function of the installer but it still takes 1:10 for FSX and SELECT A NEW AIRCRAFT to load. I'm also running Squawk Box, which could be part of it. I re-calibrated my throttle and flew the Tutorial without an issue. This isn't the worst problem, I guess I can live with it. I have some other questions about flying the MD-11 but will head over to the appropriate forum for that. Thanks for the help.Bill Buxton

To use the CTRL+Shift method, you need to be holding them both down prior to starting FSX (Clicking on the icon). You should also continue to hold them both down until the FSX GUI loads. Even with FSX normally loading up fast this method will take a while since it is rewriting a few of the files. Another thing you can do is the same as above but right click FSX and choose "Run as administrator". I have installed FSX the same exact way many times and sometimes installs just don't go the same way each time. I'm still a ways from getting it reinstalled in my system but dread it beause of this since my last install was the best I ever had.

I'm impressed with the quick response and good advice provided by the two Dans. The right click, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR trick worked. FSX loaded in :20 and CHANGE CURRENT AIRCRAFT loaded in :05.I know you didn't invent fire, it just seems like it.Thanks,Bill Buxton
