April 19, 201016 yr Greetings from sunny Tampere Finland! We are constructing Cessna 172 flight sim based on a real C172 Skyhawk II fuselage:http://www.lentosimulaattori.com/index.htmlhttp://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/http://www.youtube.com/user/Cessna172simOur sim is using Flight 1 C172 as a flight model:http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=esd172My request concerns new 'special' virtual cockpit. I am not experienced graphic designer or cannot code G-Max myselfso I kindly ask your help for this.We are running our simulator with a curved screen and 3 video projectors.I would like to ask this help on behalf of me but also all fellow simmers with curved visual screens.Would it be possible for someone to create a 'special' virtual cockpit for F1 C172. This virtual cockpit would only have prop in the center of the screen and in the sides you could see front section of the wings and wing support columns. This method is used in almost all commercial GA Cessna flight simulators with curved screen and projectors.http://www.frasca.com/mediaclips/TV220-Dis...closure.3MB.wmvHere is also 2 pictures:http://www.epicflightacademy.com/UserFiles...ttruefltext.pnghttp://www.epicflightacademy.com/UserFiles...pletetruflt.jpgI have tried to find a person to code this kind of solution for F1 Cessna here in Finland but nobody knows how to do it. They are telling it would have to be a person who have created the original virtual cockpit or a person who can code G-Max.If you could help me, feel free to contact me anytime via my email: [email protected],Olli-Petteri

April 19, 201016 yr I'm prepared to be shot down, but I don't believe you need to build a special VC for this. All you need to do is direct the Forward/Left/Right Views to your three projectors. The TripleHead2Go product may be helpful to you in this.I started a thread on here called Any Beamers Out There ? (Beamer = front projector) a while back, but I can't find it right now. That attracted the attention of quite a few folks building home cockpits with wraparound screens, and one of them was using some impressive software which stitched the three views together on a single curved screen. If I can find it I will post a link.

The software that corrects problems with the curved screen is called Nthusim (www.nthusim.com), used to be SOL7.I would need virtual cockpit that only shows the prop and a very small part of wings and support columns. I would like to skip everything else since we already have a real plane instead :)What I am missing when flying with curved 180" screen is a "virtual" prop in the center view and wings when you look left and right, for example in the traffic circuit.Check out those Frasca vids above to see what I mean.I already got an reply that it might be impossible to create this 'special virtual cockpit in VC mode. Maybe in 2D it might be possible to remove all of the gauges, avionics etc. and just leave prop and wings. http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/V...G_1611.JPG/fullFrom this video you can see that if there would be a virtual prop view it would be more realistic:http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/V...ng/MVI_1625.AVIif you compare it to this:
April 19, 201016 yr I see your point. Maybe you should move to a jet sim :( Seriously tho, there are some very clever folks on here. If it can be done, I'm sure there is someone here who can help.Nice setup though !

Regards,Douglas If the F1 C172 model has two .mdl files, one for the exterior and another for the interior, then it can indeed be done, even without source files of any kind whatever. However -and this is a major hurdle- the person doing the model would have no way of testing his/her work without having the exact same set up as the "customer!" :( Fr. This won't help since after this 'trick' the virtual cockpit is not visible anymore. Is there any way to make the virtual cockpit "invisible" and just to let the prop and wing struts + wings into this virtual cockpit? What I would have to do and what programs would I need?

Costs?- If the solution is to make a "empty model for FS2004/Flight 1 C172 Virtual cockpit, does this only remove all interiorand leaves the prop, struts and the wings untouched?

This proposed "solution" is NOT possible in FS2004 at all......since both the exterior model and the interior model are in one compiled .mdl file... :(I am a bit confused since your earlier post had you checking your FSX C172 model and attempting to disable the interior model... :( At this point, the only remaining option would be to hex edit your single .mdl file to toggle "off" the VC drawing, leaving an unobstructed view in the "VC View" mode. I have FSX here in my home computer but in the sim computer we run FS2004. I have now learned that there is not much common between these two.Like I said, we are unfortunately stuck to use FS2004 since all the Finnish scenery packages are only compatible for FS2004. As a default FSX graphics don't come even close.I have received few advices from a Finnish guy. Maybe you could tell what do you think about this kind of solution he suggested:"My idea is to create a new plane, to model the wings and prop in gmax for VC only and to use the aircraft.cfg of your Cessna (it shouldn't be a problem with the copyright as long as it is not shared, or?). Probably it takes a bit to find the right view point and scale for the wings."Also I received information today that it is actually possible to create animated propeller also in 2D cockpit mode. There is actually this kind of 2D cockpit available here in Avsim file library: "yakovlev_yak-18t.zip"The perfect solution would be to have a 2D cockpit with animated propeller and in the sideviews only wing struts and the leading edge of the actual wing. Something like this:http://images3.jetphotos.net/img/2/5/5/0/1..._1160617055.jpghttp://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/attachmen...mp;d=1255388119
April 20, 201016 yr Moderator The "dummy VC model" is a good idea if you have no interest whatever in ever seeing the outside of the aircraft in Spot View......since there'd be nothing to display. :( Fr. April 21, 201016 yr The "dummy VC model" is a good idea if you have no interest whatever in ever seeing the outside of the aircraft in Spot View......since there'd be nothing to display. :( :( no need for that. I just need my prop, struts and wings ;)I suppose this dummy VC also affects when flying in the net? Shame that we already have exellent paint for our F1 Cessna:http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/a...Paint2.JPG/full

So others in the "net" should not notice any difference whatever! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
