Interpolated stations ASE

I was looking at the interpolated weather station created near my home airport today and noticed something odd. The winds here today are gusting from 10-20 kts, but the interpolated station has only 2-3 kts of wind. Here's a shot of the interpolation source data, along with the results at bottom (Build 572).Is there a way to turn off these interpolation sites? Or some setting I should change? I notice that from you screen shot that the final interpolated winds have a problem in, the metars all show wind gusting 20 - 29 but your final is 03, something tells me there is some problem in ASE

Jannier,Yes, I noticed the source data winds were all higher, too. I'd expect the interpolated station to be somewhere between the other stations. Has anyone else observed this phenomenom on their systems? I'm just running vanillia FSX with Acceleration, plus a RealAir Duke.Of course, all this data is collected and processed before I even launch FSX, so I don't think it would have an effect.Scott

Hi All,We did work on the interpolated winds so that they are not all zero, but we may need to re-visit this.

I flew in these conditions in FSX a bit yesterday and the low winds do cause localized areas of low wind (~3kts) while the surrounding areas are at 18-25 kts. Is there any way to shut these off, or will we need to wait for the next service pack? Thanks,Scott

Hi,In ASE interpolation will always be there. There are no plans to remove it or make it optional. However, we will look at adjusting things as specific conditions arise.

Jim,Found another odd occurance. I was browsing the station weather in and around LA and was looking at some more interpolated station dataIt seems to be taking data from very distant stations. Have others seen this?Thanks,Scott

The distances and directions to those specific stations (which are all in Africa), are those you would see if the aircraft were positioned at latitude 0, longitude 0 - i.e. at the intersection of the equator and Greenwich meridian.I know that ASE, and many other programs that interface with FSX/FS9 consider this to be an aircraft's default location, when the program does not know the actual location. Flight Sim Commander, for instance, will place your aircraft here on its moving map, until you connect it to FS, at which time the position updates to show the actual aircraft location.Only reason I can imagine why ASX would pick these stations for interpolation is because (for whatever reason), the interpolation engine can't determine the aircraft's actual location. Try clicking on "lock to closest" to see where ASX "thinks" you are.JIm Barrett

Yes I have seen this just recently at FALE South Africa, It was interpolating with a station in Australia 8000km away.There is something really not "lekker" with ASE and interpolatingRegardsJannie

Definitely. ASE would need to know your aircraft's current location to know what local weather to inject, and which stations to use for interpolation. If you hadn't yet launched FSX when you took the screen shot, it woud explain why ASX picked the four closest stations to LAT 0 LON 0 (which is in the Gulf of Guinea), as that's the default location when actual position is not known.

That is true. I had this stations in Africa even I was in flight.Maybe ASE should take the position of the interpolated station instead of FS.I hope they are working on it.The other stations work really fine for me. And not everytime the interpolated stations are wrong.
