May 4, 201016 yr Hi,I want to buy a new computer and need some suggestions according CPU, graphics card and hard disks.I have thought of the AMD 1090T 6-core CPU, the Ati HD5870 and two SSDs (one for Windows and one for FSX).How does the HD5870 compare to the nvidia GTX 480? Are there objective tests with both of them in FSX (Framerate comparison with same settings or so)? If the difference is only minimal I would choose the Ati, because it's cooler (temperature), consumes less power, is more silent and of course costs less. The resolution would be 1920x1980.I did not want to open a thread in each sub forum, so I'll ask about CPU and hard disk in this thread, too.FSX can use all 6 cores, right? How does an overclocked AMD six-core compare to an overclocked i7 quad-core (not extreme OC, just what can be done with "normal" effort)? And does FSX performes better with SSDs?Thanks in advance.Jan Windows 11 Pro - Ryzen 3 5900X - nVidia RTX 4090 - 32GB DDR4-3600 === Microsoft Flight Simulator
May 4, 201016 yr Hello Jan,I don't know CPU and Chipsets (Mobo) from AMD. But I know, that AMD has no chance against Intel i7 when it comes to CPU performance and that is what you will need for FSX. FSX can use up to 256 cores but it mainly uses the first core, so you need the highest clockable cpu combined with the fastest graphics card and memories. Thats far more important then multi cores!!With my 980x at stock clock I get 15FPS (maxed sliders, REX and ORBX PNW) on KSEA. Overclocked to 4.5GHz I get 20FPS and good smoothness. As for the graphics card, I had a 5870 and now own a GTX480. For FSX I never go back to ATI because of IQ and smoothness. FPS wise both cards are equal, but if you like REX clouds and water and smooth flights, then nothing beats a GTX470 or 480 to day.

I might get one when the prices comes down.
