Increasing VC cockpit lighting

Featured Replies

A few years back I read a post on the old Cloud 9 support forum (now closed) that you can increase the brightness of the cockpit lighting in a VC. I tried it and it worked. Now I need to do it again but because the forum has closed down, I can't look up the posting and I've forgotten how it worked. Does anybody know? As I recall, it involved increasing a value in the aircraft.cfg file to a value that FS9 supposedly couldn't handle but in fact it can. Anybody know how to do this?

I remember there was a patch for the F4 where they brightened the VC, but I think it was done by editing the materials a little and then compiling it or something like that. I don't remember a simple fix, but if you find one I've got an FSD Seneca that I'd like to brighten up a bit...

Yeah, it's for the F4 that I'm looking for this. I had to do a complete reinstall and lost all my backed up files. You may be right about somebody editing and compiling as a patch but I definitely remember doing it myself. It involved putting an entry into the lights section of the aircraft.cfg - I'm going to try something today as I may have remembered what it was. If I'm right I'll let you know

Well, here's what I remembered. I tried it, and it seems to work, though it might just be my imagination as the difference isn't "dramatic." :(Go to the Lights section of aircraft.cfg. Copy the files that read vcockpit.fx (or whatever) and paste them at the end of the lights section. Renumber them so they are in sequence. Save it, crank up FS and see how it looks. As I recall it, FS is supposed to have a limit to how many entries there can be in the aircraft.cfg file but the person who figured out the fix found out that it could be exceeded without any negative effect. Basically, all you are doing is doubling the number of vc.fx files it calls on. Seems to work on the Cloud9 F4 Phantom (an AWESOME product and much over-looked by the FS community!) and may work with other aircraft. If someone reading this has a better idea please let us know... :(

You can go to http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/ and get support on the F4. It's a good plane.
