lost textures, especially water

I've been using FSX on an antiquated machine for a long time, but suddenly yesterday, a display problem which has me stumped. Before I try a reinstall, thought I'd see what ideas are out there. Have UTX, GEX, FSX sp2 on win xp 32. No hardware changes, but I did try to create some photo real scenery Friday night, and I assume that was when I corrupted things. (AMD 3800x2, 8800 GT, 2 GB memory)I've lost display of virtually all water, for a 50-60 mile radius around my plane, as well as many highway displays. I'll try to attach pictures. My scenery attempt was KART, at he northeast end of Lake Ontario (with Sbuilder X and ADEX). The airport came out great, but when I took off, the eastern third of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River were gone! If I move 150 miles southeast, the map display shows the lake and river to have returned. But if I fly or slew towards them, the missing water (through the cockpit window it looks like desert) keeps moving away. Scenery immediately local to the plane, except the missing water, is probably OK. For instance, at KLEB, the airport and mountains are fine, but there is no Connecticut river, and no I-91.I've removed the airport and Sbuilder bgl files, tried starting with a new fsx.cfg file (abnormal shorelines, some water at Friday Harbor), tried different levels of water (I've used 2 low for two years), and searched unsuccessfully for recently changed files in FSX. I've tried running with all addon scenery inactive (all freeware downloads). Perhaps I did something to UTX or GEX??The first picture (two uploads melded??) is a map view with plane well southeast of the lake. Most of Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence is thereThe next two are cockpit and map images with the plane over the lake. The lake is desert, and the map display show the corrupted areas move with the plane (so it not the FSX scenery files...)It is pretty much impossible to underestimate my computer skills..so any and all ideas greatly appreciated.Gary

Gary,I believe the problem might be a corrupt terrain.cfg file in your root FSX folder, I think that if you start the UTX Setup tool it will get rebuilt. Try that and see if it solves your problem.Make sure you also check C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX and that the scenery.cfg file there looks good.

I had a very similar challenge last week.....Water was all blue squares. My fix was reinstalling the Shader files from *******.........

*******, thank you so much. The scenery.cfg had not been changed for a long time, but running the UTX setup (I changed the water texture, then changed it back) has fixed things. I was pretty sure Lake Ontario was still there!Still have to re-do my settings--have virtually no scenery detail beyond two or three miles, but I suspect that is just a matter of getting things set the way they were before. I honestly expected to be doing a full reinstall this week...Hunderes of Ai, airports and flightplans...Thanks again, for this help, and for all of your remarkable contributions to our addiction!!Gary

In 'Options\Settings\Display' and 'Scenery' tab, set 'Watter Effects' to 'Low 2x' and see if that will 'improve' your water texture.CBNapamule
