May 25, 201016 yr Do you know what is the red line object that usually appears near the start of the runway in ADEX - see attached pic?In this pic, the object is not near the start of runway, and I am wondering if it can be edited and moved?Cheers. Harry Sung

May 25, 201016 yr Author Thanks guys :( The difference between VASI and PAPI are purely visual, right?Does the placement of the PAPI/VASI on the runway determine when an aircraft should descend in an ILS approach? Also, what is the difference between Primary and Secondary? Harry Sung

No relation to ILS glide slope. In fact there are indicators on many airport ILS approach charts indicating that the two indicators do no coincide.Primary is first runway ID (lower compass heading such as 5 for 50 degrees). Secondary is the reciprocal, opposite end ID (23 for 230 degrees). The light locations are measured from the center-point of the runway (in either direction). Art
May 25, 201016 yr Normally the VASI/PAI would be positioned approximately alongside the touchdown aimpoint bar. Set it and then use your aircraft in slew to move over the runway threshold. You can find the threshold crossing height often in the AIP documentation, or use 55 ft as a guestimate. Move the VASI/PAPI forward or back as needed to get the lights right when viewed from the cockpit.scott s..
