Scenery Advice

Folks,I'm just getting my new PC setup, and looking to setup the machine for FSX. I see there are a ton of different scenery packages on the market, and I'm confused as to mesh, textures, etc... Can anyone suggest what scenery add-on packages are worth the money and a must have? I'm looking for as my eye candy as I can get. I plan to do a combination of VFR and IFR type flying. My PC specs are as follows:Intel Core i7 930 over clocked to 3.36GhzWater cooled processorATI Radeon 597012gb RAM300gb SATAII Drive at 10K RPMI'm truly appreciate of any advice.Thanks!

Hi, Suggest you try demos (free) for Orbx's PNW and AUstralia (Tasmania). Truly fantastic stuff and great company to deal with. They offer free payware quality airports as well for both areas. Also, you can get over 300 free, nicely detailed and blended (into the scenery) airports for their Australia package from the OZx group. Their PNW (Pacific North West) scenery has over 400 airports (practically all of those in the covered area) which have eye candy added to them - also some free airports as well which are payware quality. I think you'll want the packages after trying the demo's. IMO there' not much else available in scenery addons to match the Orbx stuff and their customer support.Hope this helps. The Ultimate Terrain X products, UTX-USA and UTX-Europe, are on my must-have list. They provide highres coastline and river/lake banks, enhanced roads and auto traffic, and enhanced urban features for both large and small cities. The FSGenesis worldwide mesh is also a worthy add-on and a good deal right now, though it's not completely perfect.As for that new computer: you'll need to get its OC up to at least 3.8 ghz (hopefully even higher) to truely appreciate that extra FSX eyecandy.

I too agree with the overclocking advice...But as far as scenery packages go:Fro USA flying you can't go wrong with UTX, GEX, and pick your choice of weather textures (FEX/REX/ASX)Pacific Northwest by Orbx looks really great if you have a fast PC (which you will once overclocked a bit more). Not to highjack the thread, but do you have any tips for a fellow i7 920 owner? I have already changed the stock fan on the cpu and gpu. But every time I try to oc the cpu it freezes. As for scenery try Flytampa, I have St. Maarten and Hong Kong, they're very detailed and I haven't noticed any major fps hit with stock speed.

Thanks guys!Is there an order to how these packages get installed? I haven't even installed FSX yet. I dd manage ot OC the cpu to 3.6 ghz. My PC is an Alienware Area 51, so not truly sure how to OC it.Cheers,
