Texture addons

Featured Replies

Hello all,I have UTX and GEX (for Canada, USA, and Europe) and FEX. I was watching this video on youtube (link below) and the fella states on the comment section that he uses REX. Is REX compatible with UTX, GEX, and FEX? If not, what should I disable and replace with REX? Any suggestions? It's amazing how I can see the cracks on the concrete slab on that video. Is that from REX or some other addon that he is using? Also, does FS Genesis conflict with any of the aforementioned addons? Any advice is appreciated.

If you already have FEX then you dont exactly need REX unless you want the extra texture replacements that REX offers like runway and taxiway textures, improved lightning texture and effects, and different choices of lighting for plane, taxiway and runway, plus it has a weather engine. I own FEX just because it came out before REX, but I have since purchased REX and use all of its texture options with the exception of the lighting for a/c, runways and taxiways.GEX is just a texture replacement for the ground textures and UTX adds realistic placement of roads, highways, railways, bridges, coastlines and water bodies like rivers and lakes. UTX also comes with a landclass which tells the sim where to place the appropriate ground textures for cities, farms, swamps, etc.REX or FEX will make no difference to GEX or UTX since they handle completely different parts of the sim.Hope that helps.Regards

Thank you so much! I will go ahead and purchase REX.What about FSGenesis? Where does this addon fit in?

There's 4 main types of addons that play into how the terrain looks - here's a simple explanation of what each does.Mesh - this is the data that determines the 3D shape of the terrain - the "model" if you will - it's comprised of elevation data points. Higher resolution mesh will make the contour of mountains etc look more detailed and closer to real life. (I use the FSGenesis USA 10m mesh and an even higher detailed 4.75m mesh for Arizona from FSDreamscapes personally)Textures - Pretty simple, this is what gets mapped to the mesh so that the terrain looks like something rather than just bare polygons. Think of it as akin to what an aircraft's repaint textures do to the visual model. (I use Ground Environment X)Landclass - determines which textures get mapped where on the mesh. This is very important for making cities and towns and stuff like that look right. (I use the FSGenesis US National Landclass)Land data - Defines the coastlines, roads, lakes and rivers and so on. Also very important for making the terrain look real. (I use Ultimate Terrain X)

That was perfect. Then with my understanding, if I have UTX, GEX, FEX, and REX...I am still missing a mesh and landclass addon. This is where FS Genesis comes in? Awesome. Thanks mate.

Is UTX a landclass addon as well? I am thinking of going for SceneryTech for my landclass addon but already have UTX. Can someone confirm that UTX does not have any landclass component to it? Thanks!

UTX does come with a landclass also and if you add another landclass product you need to place it between these entries in your scenery.cfg:UT Landclass - Vegatationyour land class goes here ie. SceneryTech - North America and/or SceneryTech EuropeUT Landclass - UrbanUT Landclass - CustomUT Landclass - Custom (Europe)
