June 20, 201015 yr Can someone explain to me the difference between mipmaps and non-mipmaps. I download scenery and it has a mipmaps texture folder and a non-mipmaps texture folder. All these years simming and I never knew what the difference is.
June 20, 201015 yr A mip mapped image is one which has several smaller versions of itself also as part of the file, so that it views more realistically at a distance, therefore the computer does no have to re-interpolate a large image down to a smaller resolution when displaying it at a distance, so it saves on processing power. It also prevents artifacting such as moire patterns when viewing textures at smaller sizes, since a smaller image that is pre-rendered at a small size will not cause interference patterns from clashes with the screen resolution.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 20, 201015 yr Mip maps are good as long as you don't use them on the outside of a aircraft you (FLY)use. Although, mipmaps on AI work great.
