Question on the RC

Featured Replies

I installed the RC into my FSX Having the copilot flying for me and arriving at a major airport ATC does not lower me to the airport .It does not pick up the ILS .Am i kissing something on the setup of the flight ?This happens on all the flights i have mad so far .

Do you mean that FSX does not reduce your altitude when requested by ATC (RC?)? You need to be using an default (FSX) type autopilot for that to occur I think. At some distance out you, the pilot in command, must resume control of the airplane in order to complete the landing. I'd suspect this is why Otto is not landing the airplane for you.I'm sure I am oversimplifying somewhat. I don't usually have Otto do anything other than fly the middle portion of the flight and have probably forgotten some of the finer points here.

Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.

I highly suggest reading and then practicing some of the tutorials for complete flights. They are of short duration. Print them out from the manual so you can see the instructions as you perform the flight.Otto will not fly an approach. You can let Otto handle the comms for you but you give up the right to delay a reply or request a repeat. In general Otto can only fly aircraft that adhere to the standard FS interface for controls.I generally take over the aircraft using the various AP controls such as HDG, ALT/ALT CHG, V/S, SPEED - the controls depend on your configuration - so the aircraft follows my commands in obeying ATC commands. If you have gotten down to the intercept altitude dictated by RC then when the localizer indicator starts moving turn the aircraft to the inbound heading and arm VOR first as the needle is just outside of center. At airports with the same frequency on both ends of the runway be sure you are receiving the correct ID by audio or PFD ident display as a bug in FS airports may mean you are on the incorrect LOC/ILS. When you are on the near center beam that should correct. As you merge with the LOC of the navaid is an ILS, not jusrt a localizer, then the GS indicator should be above center and start moving down as you get nearer. You can now engage APP mode so the aircraft starts descending on the glideslope when the indicator lowers to near the center. The aircraft will not lock to a GS indication below the center and if you manually descend to catch it you may end up too fast. Remember to follow the flaps and speed schedule so the aircraft can remain on the slope guided by the AP.Also, if you were using GPS guidance, be sure you change the selection to NAV since GPS in some cases will not follow the inbound center beam and it will in all cases not follow a glideslope. The FS default GPS will not follow airport navaids in most add-on sceneries - but that's another story.Hal Stoen, a retired corporate twin prop pilot and instrument certified instructor, has written a series of online tutorials that are well illustrated here:http://www.stoenworks.com/Aviation%20home%20page.htmlYou also might enjoy some of his tales such as being parked adjacent to the corporate Playboy Magazine jet and meeting some of the crew.

Thanks for the replies .I failed to mention that ATC never gave the commands to decent and land .Pappy

usually happens when you haven't gotten close to the assigned altitudecan also happen at uncontrolled airportscould happen if you haven't acked the previous clearanceare you on center frequency? approach? tower? hard to tell from your brief description. fly a couple of tutorials, and see if you can get the hang of itif that doesn't work, make a log, details pinned to the top of the forum. be sure to hit debug BEFORE loading the .pln - duplicate the problem, and send me the .planjd
