I'm getting crazy with the shimmering...

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm comming back to flight simming after some years... I always had nVidia cards and tweaked my config to almost perfection, great fps, fluid flying and almost zero blurries. This time I'm flying on a laptop with a Radeon HD4670 card and a quad core i7 cpu on Windows 7, really great fps with very high detail at 1920x1080, 8x AA 16x AF. The one problem I can't get rid of is the shimmering on the textures, really annoying...I know lowering the mipmap detail to 4 corrects the problem, the shimmering disappears completely but this comes at the cost of having back the blurries. As soon as I increment the mipmap detail, the textures become very crisp and sharp again but the shimmering is back again. I didn't have this problem onnvidia cards.Anyone has been successful getting rid of shimmer on Radeon cards ? I'll really appreciate any help.Thank You.

I hope someone has an answer, because I have the exact same problem with my laptop.

Hello,Screenshot useless.Usually you will not seen the "shimmering" effect rendered in a screen shot .. as it's a instant capture..Shimmering is a changing visual effect .. can be better seen in a movie !Bad antialiasing (footstep) can be seen in a screenshot.AFAIKRegards.bye.gifGus.

Hi,I had the same trouble with an OEM HD3650 a couple of months ago. I had just upgraded the driver to the latest version, not because the old one was no good... just because it's received 'wisdom' that the newest driver is best.Result? Shimmering 3-d objects, speckled ground textures and a minor frame-rate hit.I went to the manufacturer's driver archive, looking for the old one & came away with a whole batch of drivers. Tried each one in turn, looking for the most recent that didn't cause the shimmering. I finally settled on one about 9 months old.Best thing you can do is book an afternoon on your PC to try a few from the archive.Note if you have a card 'Built by ATI', you can use ATI's own drivers, if it's 'Powered by ATI' you'll need the manufacturer's custom drivers. (Mine is 'Powered by...' by Sapphire so I used their website's archive).Newest really isn't best.Regards,D

The shimmering made an Nvidia owner. I had an ATI and never got much relief. My recommendation is make the change if its affordable.

An nVidia card would have been the best choice but sadly I didn't have the choice, this DELL XPS16 was really a very good deal and I couldn't find a laptop with the same features and price ratio... I also expected that after a these years years this problem had to be solved... I really hope someone will appear with the miracle tweak to save us from the shimmer curse... or as someone said before, wait for the miracle driver release...Let's keep trying.
