July 1, 201015 yr Author Hmm, forgot to say - cos I have had these "Scenery Cache" errors before - that if I click OK to clear the Mallorca message I will then get a million other scenery errors - each one missing obscure files. So its not just Mallorca.Everything else should be uptodate - NFwork for example is 3.5 already for other purposes. But I will reinstall them as you suggestThanksNicholas

Make sure UAC is turned off too (you can turn it back on if you want after installations).Best regards,Jim
July 2, 201015 yr The errors you're getting there are not directly related to each other on the surface, but often times that can point to a common underlying issue. I would start by testing your RAM and hard drive. You can do so by running memtest and MHDD, respectively. The quickest and simplest way to obtain these programs is to download Hiren's boot disk and burn a copy to CD. The legality of HBCD is somewhat questionable due to its inclusion of some licensed software, but both memtest and MHDD are completely free to use. If you Google "Hiren's Boot CD" you should find a link to download a disk image. Then, using your favorite disk burning utility you can burn said image to a CD. Once you've done so reboot the system with the disk in the drive and boot from the disk. Run memtest for as long as it takes to get at least one full pass, or overnight if you prefer. If any errors show up and are highlighted in red, you likely have bad RAM. Otherwise, your memory subsystem is fine. Next move on to MHDD. Run a test on your primary hard disk. Any errors produced indicate the drive is likely failing. Same goes for multiple warnings (5 or greater = bad drive IMHO).If you have any questions just ask.
July 2, 201015 yr Author This problem surfaced some months ago. I checked the memory which was fine, and then reinstalled OS and FS, but the crashes continued. The memory was checked again and I found a Seagate tool to check the drive which reported ok.I shall have a go on my drive with the tool you recommend, and reinstall NFwork and VisualBasic to make sure thats its all straight. Thanks so far - but dont go away cos I fear that this one is going to run and run :( Nicholas

Its job is to tell you there's nothing wrong with your drive so you don't RMA it.
July 3, 201015 yr Author Have to admit that I am pretty fed up with this: its been such a long time since I could get a proper flight in. I thought things were going to be okay when I added the 3Gb switch, but this "Directory Cache" error - why on earth is FS looking for files in sceneries continents away from my flightpath? - and the other errors are wearing me down.I had a whole bunch of entries for Visual+++ in my "Add/Remove Programs" list and junked them all, then had a battle to find a new version: all I could find were SPs for existing versions: finally I have v6.0 and an SP but as they dont show in my "Ad/Remove" list I dont know if theyre installed correctly.NetF is v2 through 3.5SP1.Got MHDD but I believe what the initial Readme says: I
July 6, 201015 yr Author Well Im sorry but MHHD is too much for me.Even after trying to understand the fiirst part of the documenatation I am no closer to understanding what I am seeing on the screeen. One thing I do know is that when I finally managed to select a drive to scan it said "LMA not supported" - which is Greek to me.This is going to have to be done by a tech and getting my pc to the techshop is a nighhtmare and getting him to come here is losta$. So this is goig to take time. And I am fed up with the whole thing. Thanks for your pateince.Nicholas
July 16, 201015 yr Author I have just discovered that I am running FS9 and not 9.1 .I forgot to upfdate on install. No, thats not right: it wasnt fogetfullness - it was carelessness.Does the lack of the update make sens of the errors I have been having?Nicholas

July 16, 201015 yr Author Mallorca was just one example I gave of dozens of sceneries that had were reported as having "missing" files. Mallorca (or LOWI, or LROP, or LPFR or wherever) - is not the point here. But - now I am unsure about what version I am running.Under "Help/About" in FS it tells me I have version 9.0 and a 3.....number build. The exe file I use is a version 9.1 and a 4.....number build. The 9.1 updater uninstaller and readme files are in my FS root.So I am more confused than ever.
July 28, 201015 yr Author New FS install, definately 9.1 - just UTs, FSGlobal mesh, MyWorld LC, RC, ASE and a few sceneries installed on just one continent.2 hours in the Captain 757 before crashing with Cache Directory Errors.Next day, over 3.5 hours in the PSS 777 before crashing.I spose I should be happy about this: the best I could manage before was 90 minutes.Checked the drives with HD Tune Pro: all ok.When I Googled "Cache Directory Error" the only hit I got referring to FS was a post of mine. Looks like I
July 28, 201015 yr Maybe your antivirus is deleting those files without a warning, just an idea.Do you have Norton or McAffee AV? They've been known for doing that
