I have the A2A Piper with accusim and it's a blast to fly. I have become a real fan of accusim (B-17 also). I have also been admiring the Sibwings Bird dog and wondered if any one has an opinion on me adding the Bird Dog. The Bird Dog looks really nice in the screenshots but I wonder of there is enough difference if I was to have both? If I get the Bird Dog would it just be the Cub with a different panel and skin? Or is it possible they are different enough to enjoy both? Thanks

Andrew

The Bird Dog is a pretty nice little plane. The flight model doesn't touch the A2A Cub's though. Everything else is good.Honestly if you're really happy with the Cub, I'd skip the Bird Dog. The Cub is just THAT good.

The Bird Dog is different enough to make for new experience compared to a Cub. The Cub is extremely lightweight, whereas the Bird Dog is an all-metal aircraft which weighs about twice as much as a Cub. so although they are broadly similar in appearance, and were developed for the same role, the later Bird Dog is more capable.Cruise speed is much higher on the Bird Dog, at about 120-130, since although it weighs more, it has a much more powerful engine, which gives it a better rate of climb and a higher service ceiling (almost twice that of the Cub). Because those are very different flight characteristics, it makes the Bird Dog much more capable of exploring in hilly terrain or humid temperatures than would be practical in a Cub, so if you have in mind to do some slightly more expanded flying than what you have been doing in the Cub, it would be a welcome boost to capabilities, which is in fact why the Army ordered it to replace the Cub in the same FAC role. But if you like Accusim, there is also that to consider.Al

Thanks Chock for the info and detailed explanation. I may just keep flying the cub since I use the airplane in the FTX PNW. I can fire up the Bonanza if I need to go a little faster than the cub will allow.
