You need to get started with getting the default sim updated to FS9.75.First off here's the must have list of add-ons for the default experiance after you install the FS9.1 patch:1. Flight1's Ground Environment Pro (fully patched version). This package updates the whole world with realistic textures for the various regions and seasons (very important).2. REX for FS9 to update the sky environment among other things (play around until things feel right for you. There are allot of options but to save you some time on the sky texture I use 'Tropics' as an all around daytime sky texture)3. Zinertek's Water (install after REX so your water looks closer to FSX versus FS9 and settings don't get overwritten by REX requiring you to backtrack a bit).3. Zinertek's Airport Environment to update all those default airport buildings with a more realistic look. These are the basics then you can dive into the various add-on airports you want and realistic aircraft. FS9 is capable of looking far better than the default option so you need to tackle that first then move on to everything else.Good Luck... :(

9.75 consist of ACTIVESky 6.5, Rex2004 extreme, Ultimate Terrain,Zinertek's water, FS Genesis and Ground Pro II. Now this is the right version of FS9.Carl Perry 7+ year sim pilot

One can use the textures in Activesky 6.5 but that application is basically for producing realistic weather to fly through. You don't need any textures from Activesky 6.5 once REX is installed. Activesky Evolution is the most current version in the series and the one I use. No matter, any version of Acticesky going back to 6.5 is a must have so there's no use arguing on versions. Ultimate Terrain is great as long as you decide to avoid Hawaii. Unless something is fixed Ultimate Terrain USA totally screwed up the buildings in Hawaii leaving many coastal highrises/buildings in the water. I uninstalled it years ago for this reason.FS Genesis is always a must especially for states like Utah and Arizona but not a requirement for getting off the ground with FS9. The original poster was looking for the basics and all the rest will come. For the record all my mesh is installed in the 'scenery\base\scenery' folder. I forget the reason this was suggested along time ago. It's worked well for me so I thought I'd pass it on.
