July 10, 201015 yr Am giving some thought to purchasing the CLS 747-200 package. Have looked around for some input from folks that have it to see what they they think of it (but have found next to nothing). Read the review here, but would like to find out what others think of this offering all around. I know it is in the "lite" class and thats OK, but hows the modeling and how well does it perform basic AP functions. I thought I read somewhere (and I may be wrong about this) that some, after installing this package had trouble in the sim due to changes made by the installer. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Regards, Joe Esposito

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.I have the CLS DC10 & the CLS 747 200-300. They were the first 2 big birds that I purchased. They both have good things and not so good things about them. But in all honesty I don't think you would be unhappy with them... I've had them both for quite a while and still fly them quite often. The 747 seems to have an excessive nose up attitude in flight but it is correctable by making some adjustments to the Aircraft cfg file. I would say go for it, I don't think you will be sorry.........John

July 11, 201015 yr A couple of things to know about CLS in my opinion.CLS = Superb graphics (exterior and interior), great sound sets, very shallow (almost default) systems simulation, default autopilot functions.A good time to remember that all of my opinions are my very own and that they are not AVSIM's or anyone else's Ed OcampoStaff ReviewerAVSIM Online[email protected]Fly DC Jets
July 11, 201015 yr It's a lot better than some would have you believe. It's no super in-depth study of the real aircraft, so if you want to tweak hydraulic valves at the FE station, you can't in this bird, but it provides quite an engaging experience for all that, in focusing on the job of driving the thing rather than nursing its systems.Looks-wise it is great, both in the cockpit and outside and it has a lot of external stuff such as service trucks and ULD loaders etc, which are very well done indeed. There is enough going on in the cockpit to keep the average simmer happy, even more so if you soup it up with a few third party gauges, so despite its 'lite' leanings, it feels good. Don't be fooled by that 'lite' tag either, it's no pushover to fly, managing to convey the feeling of a big jet pretty wellWhat is also interesting, is that it comes with the option to have either INS (Carousel) or FMC navigation systems. These are pretty basic (i.e load an FS flight plan and off it goes), but it does the job and should you want to, all that can be switched out for a third party Smiths FMC or INS to make it quite a complex bird. This means it has a lot of built-in flexibility as far as add-on jets go if modding them is your preference. Alternatively, you can simply leave all that alone and enjoy it for what it is, as that too is a worthy experience.Value-wise it is one of the better FS add-on aircraft offerings, since it works in both FS9 and FSX and offers the aforementioned avionics options as well as two variants of the Jumbo. It is a port-over into FSX, but works okay, so if you intend to move to FSX, then this one is future-proofed. What adds further value, is the fact that there are inexpensive additional expansion packs for it too, with cargo variants etc. Which is great, and these look just as good as the basic models it comes with.Unfortunately, in my case, I can't use my cargo expansion for this model because I lost the serial number for the cargo epansion in a computer crash and for some reason Just Flight don't have a record of my purchase, so won't send me another serial number, which is nice LOL. Anyway, my cargo problems aside, I'd certainly recommend the CLS 747, it is pretty good straight out of the 'box' and has the potential for some DIY modding to make it really rather realistic. It's quite trendy to have a pop at CLS for their focus on 'lite' stuff, but their 747 is a demonstration that they are no less capable than the high end developers when it comes to hitting what they aim for, which it has to be said in the case of their 747, was a bullseye. Personally, I highly recommend it.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
