FSX will not install on 64 bits Windows 7 system

Featured Replies

I am migrating from a 32 bits Windows 7 to a 64 bits Windows 7 system. FSX Deluxe edition ran fine on my old system. However when trying to install on my new system, the installation just stops at "Installing MSXML 4.0 parser and SDK" (repeatedly after starting again). The only option is to turn off the power switch. I know there is a MSXML v4 issue with FSX, but I don't have any version of v4 on my system (I do have v3 and v6, but I see that the versions 3, 4 and 6 can exist alongside one another).

My W7x64 system shows three lines with MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430 and KB973688 and Parser & SDK) all from November 2009.There are two SP's (3 & 4) at MS but my system states that it is up to date.

I gather (from Wikipedia) dat V3 and V6 are for use by Microsoft apps, and V4 for third party apps (including FSX apparently). FSX is almost the first app I am loading, so that probably explains why I have, as yet, no v4. This is, however, irrelevant I think. My problem is earlier: with the installer, that just grinds to a halt when it should load v4.

Where are you attempting to install FSX?Most now agree that it should be installed to a folder other than under Program files - i.e. to a folder such as C:\FSGames.Doing so will help avoid many of the Win 7 security issues.

Indeed; in C:\progs\fsx

Analysis of Windows logbook revealed this to be a virus scanner problem; turning this off solved the problem. Thanks for your input anyway
