does anyone knows where the GPS system is located inside the cockpit of CRJ 700 Bombardier JET?

Featured Replies

it's part of the FMC system. The FMC is located, in that pic below, center stack. There is a FMC display for the pilot and F/O, so 2 displays.Also...moving this to the Flight Sim forums.

So, that means the Microsoft FSX shows a different GPS while I fly CRJ700sEE the attachment images

The FS GPS is simply there for you. It's not part of the actual CRJ700.I also don't see a GPS in the position sensor list on the left FMS. I do see twin inertial reference systems.

The Collins FMS included on the CRJ has options available,Depending on the CRJ 700, and how much cash the operator wants to shell out on it, there may be GPS or there may not.....GPS is only a system for giving information to the FMS, which is actually doing the navigation. Certain CRJ's have no GPS, but DME/IRS Nav, which may require the pilots to punch in radio frequencies manually in order for the airplane to keep "Updated" and the nav accuracy in compliance with standards for RNAV/FMS use.At Mesa, all the CRJ200's have AHRS, and VOR/DME. They constantly have to have their radios tuned (They also have to do it manually) or the FMS gets lost. Sounds like fun huh?Additionally, you can equip with dual GPS/WAAS and fly the latest and greatest LPV approaches - it all depends on how much $$ you want to spend on the avionics. As Ed pointed out, it doesn't look like that CRJ has a GPS at all - rather Dual IRS and VOR/DME.No Garmin GNS' in the CRJ. It uses Rockwell Collins 4200 series FMS.

I do understand that. But there is a NAV and GPS toggle switch located to the left side of the cockpit in FSX (CRJ 700), and if the switch is provided , then there must be GPS somewhere inside the cockpit. I understand that the GARMIN GPS provided in FSX is the isolated equipment, but I'am just looking for the integrated GPS in the cockpit. I guess the FSX didn't created the cockpit view properly, as it must include the GPS, if NAV and GPS toggle switch is available.

You should be able to pull up the default with a shift+(Number) commandso Shift+1, or Shift+2, and so on untill 9.This will open and close 2D pop upsRyan.

The GPS switch you see in FS cockpits is simply to select that as the source for which the autopilot will track, i.e. it is a 'I would like the aeroplane to follow my FS flight plan that shows up as a line on the default GPS' button.Al

As Al said, in FS, the NAV/GPS switch cycles which nav source is feeding the autopilot/CDI/ND. In reallife, the selector is a bit more complex, and cycles through VOR/LOC1, FMS1, OFF, VOR/LOC2 and FMS2.CRJEFIS.png
